One More International Recognition of Improvement of Intellectual Property Protection in Georgia

In the International Property Rights Index of the American organization “Property Rights Alliance”, Georgia has advanced by 6 positions and moved in the global ranking from the 72nd to the 66th position and in the Central Eastern Europe and Central Asia region – to the 15th position. The Index published by the “Property Rights Alliance”, which is unique in the world and is fully devoted to measuring of intellectual and physical property rights, is based on the data of the study of rankings of 125 countries.
The International Property Rights Index is defined by three main components - Legal and Political Environment, Physical Property Rights and Intellectual Property Rights.
The improvement of the ranking of Georgia is considerably due to the increase of the scores of the Intellectual Property Rights Subindex. In the 10-score system, Georgia’s overall Intellectual Property Rights Index increased by 1.039 and changed from 3.876 to 4.915 scores. In separate Subindices the scores are 5.017 in Patent Protection and 5.082 in Trademark Protection.
The sources of information obtained regarding countries are various indices, including the Global Competitiveness/Innovation Index, the Ease of Doing Business Index, as well as the World Bank data and reports.
Georgia has also advanced in the rankings of the Global Innovation Index 2023, published by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). As compared with the previous year, Georgia’s ranking has improved by 9 positions and the country has moved to the 65th position among 132 economies.
