A New Project has been Launched with the Involvement of Switzerland to Improve Patent Activity in Georgia
November 14, 2023
Within the joint project (GESIP) of Sakpatenti and the Swiss Federal Institute of Intellectual Property (IPI), at the Head Office of Sakpatenti in Mtskheta, three-day training started for examiners of the Department of Inventions and New Varieties and Breeds, which will be held on November 14-16. The main topic of the training is the freedom to operate (FTO) search in the field of information and communication technologies. The freedom to operate search is the process of study according to which the risk of infringement of patents of third parties are assessed during commercial use of a given product or technology.
The training agenda covers issues of examination of patent applications related to software, artificial intelligence, other systems and methods adapted to business sectors. At the meetings additional services rendered by a national patent office will also be discussed which are not directly related to examination of patent applications, namely: preliminary search, intellectual property pre-diagnostic, etc.
During the training Swiss expert Mr. Werner Kreuzer will share practice and experience with the Georgian counterparts. The objective of the event is to improve the capacity and quality of the services which are offered by Sakpatenti to intellectual property users and the public, as well as to introduce new services. Thus, sharing of information and deepening of knowledge within the project will facilitate capacity building of the Department of Inventions and New Varieties and Breeds of Sakpatenti, which is a significant factor contributing to the development of patent systems in Georgia.
GESIP is a joint project of Sakpatenti and the Swiss Federal Institute of Intellectual Property (IPI), implemented with the financial support of the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO). According to the Project, the Government of the Swiss Confederation is committed to support Georgia in its efforts to facilitate trade and investment by promoting the protection and use of Intellectual Property Rights.
