The Traditional Annual Festival “Chacha” – 2023 was held in Telavi with the Support of the National Intellectual Property Centre of Georgia – “Sakpatenti”

With the support of the National Intellectual Property Centre of Georgia – “Sakpatenti”, the traditional annual festival “Chacha” was held in Telavi.
Farmers, peasants, small cellars and chacha producing companies of all the eight municipalities of Kakheti Region participated in the event. The festival is aimed to encourage and support them by revealing the best samples of chacha produced by them, as well as to popularize the spirit made from grape chacha (peels and pits of grapes) as a protected geographical indication and its wholesome properties.
Sakpatenti was represented at the event by its exhibition stand. The participants and visitors of the festival got acquainted on site with mechanisms of registration and protection of geographical indications and appellations of origin. Information materials were also provided to interested persons.
At the festival, representatives of Sakpatenti delivered a presentation on the mentioned IP subject-matter, provided for by the agenda.
Within the festival, the best producers of chacha, individual farmers and peasants, as well as companies producing this product, were revealed by a competition. Ilia Tsulikashvili from Kvareli won in the nomination the “Best Peasant Chacha-2023” and was awarded the gold medal. The silver medal was awarded to Kakhaber Chalatashvili from Sagarejo, and the bronze medal - to Dato Chikhladze. The company “Anaseuli Kombinat” won in the nomination the “Best Chacha of Companies-2023” and was awarded the gold medal. The silver medal was awarded to the company “Askaneli”, and the bronze medal - to “Corporation Kindzmarauli”.
The annual festival facilitates promotion of chacha and, in general, geographical indications in Georgia, increasing of their export potential and raising public awareness in this direction. The event was organized by the Georgian Chamber of Culture, the Tourism Development Association and the Administration of the State Attorney-Governor in Kakheti Region. Together with Sakpatenti, the festival was supported by the Georgian National Tourism Administration and the National Wine Agency of Georgia.
This year, for the first time, the festival was held with the support of the Administration of the Government of Georgia.
