Staff Members of Sakpatenti are Passing Coaching in the Fields of Biotechnology-Pharmacy

Examiners of the European Patent Office (EPO) delivered coaching sessions in the fields of biotechnology and pharmacy for the staff members of the Chemistry-Medicine and Biology Division of the Department of Inventions and New Varieties and Breeds of Sakpatenti. The meeting was held in hybrid mode. 

During the sessions, peculiarities of assessment of patentability and completeness of the description in the fields of biotechnology and pharmacy were discussed. The following issues were also considered: subject-matters not regarded as inventions; patent ineligible subject-matters; patent search tools and strategies; aspects related to the presentation and acceptability of data confirming efficacy and clinical test results. 

At the sessions, the latest practices and approaches of the European Patent Office were discussed in an interactive mode. 

The purpose of the coaching activity is to facilitate the professional development of Sakpatenti staff and to introduce to them the standards and tools used by the European Patent Office at the examination stage. It is important after the entry into force of the Agreement between the Government of Georgia and the European Patent Organization on the Validation of European Patents to ensure that the search and examination are carried out by the uniform standard and tools.

It is noteworthy that the Validation Agreement entered into force on January 15, 2024. Within the Agreement, it becomes possible to validate European patent applications and European patents granted by the European Patent Office (EPO) in Georgia.
