With the Support of Sakpatenti, the Bolnisi Protected Designation of Origin Wine Festival was Held

The Protected Designation of Origin Wine Festival 2024 was held in Bolnisi. The festival took place in Georgia for the second time and its slogan was “Bolnisi – the Town of Golden Wine”. At the event, wines of protected designations of origin of up to 50 large producers and small family wineries from different parts of Georgia were presented. 

Within the event, the competition of wines of protected designations of origin took place. The wines presented at the festival were evaluated by a jury of wine experts and sommeliers with international experience.

In the final part of the festival, the wines winning the gold and silver medals were revealed in a solemn ceremony. Of the 50 winemakers participating in the competition, from Bolnisi “Brothers Winery” won gold, and 7 winemakers won 9 silver medals. 

One of the supporters of the festival was the National Intellectual Property Center of Georgia – “Sakpatenti”. The Chairman of Sakpatenti addressed the audience and awarded one of the winners of the competition. The festival was presented by “RMG” and was supported by Bolnisi Municipality City Hall, Bolnisi Agrocenter, the Winemakers Union “Wine Bolnisi”, the National Wine Agency, the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia and Sakpatenti. 

The Protected Designation of Origin is one of the important indicators of wine characteristics, which makes wines marked by this sign superior to other wines. The purpose of the festival is to promote and raise awareness of the official sign of designation of origin among winemakers. 

The festival featured musical performances by the trio “Alilo” and the quartet “Ranina” together with the band.
