The First Meeting of the Steering Committee of the Georgia-EU Project – EU4IP Took Place

Today, the first meeting of the Steering Committee of the Georgia-EU joint project – “Strengthening Intellectual Property Rights in Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine (EU4IP)” took place.
The meeting held in online format was attended by representatives of Sakpatenti, the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO), the European Patent Office (EPO), the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), the State Agency on Intellectual Property of the Republic of Moldova (AGEPI), the Ukrainian National Office for Intellectual Property and Innovations (UANIPIO), the European External Action Service (EEAS) and the European Commission Directorate-General for Neighbourhood and Enlargement Negotiations (DG NEAR).
At the meeting the parties agreed on the general rules and procedures of activity of the Steering Committee, summarized the activities implemented within the initial phase of the project, discussed aspects of the joint action plan and the general strategy, among these, on the basis of the agreement between the parties, approved the first work plan, describing in detail the activities to be implemented during the first phase of the project (July 1, 2024 – December 31, 2025).
It is noteworthy that EU4IP is a new regional project of the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO), which was preceded by the EU-Georgia Intellectual Property Project (EUGIPP) with the duration of three years. Building on the results achieved within the project, on the initiative of the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO), it was decided to implement a new project together with Sakpatenti, with the involvement of the State Agency on Intellectual Property of the Republic of Moldova (AGEPI) and the Ukrainian National Office for Intellectual Property and Innovations (UANIPIO).
The overall objective of EU4IP is to use IP as an instrument in creating a favourable environment for innovation, creativeness and free competition, for the economic and cultural development of Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine, strengthening their SMEs potential, raising the level of investment attractiveness. This cooperation will assist the three candidate countries on their way to the EU membership and in joining the European Union Intellectual Property Network (EUIPN).
