The Second Stage of the Training of Trainers (ToT) Program Organized by the WIPO Academy Was Completed Successfully at Sakpatenti

The Training of Trainers (ToT) Program, organized by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) Academy was implemented successfully at the head office of the National Intellectual Property Center of Georgia – “Sakpatenti” in Mtskheta.
The above-mentioned Training of Trainers Program was planned during the meeting of Mr. Soso Giorgadze, Chairman of Sakpatenti, and Mr. Sherif Saadallah, Executive Director of WIPO Intellectual Property Academy in January of the current year, taking into account Sakpatenti needs and priorities. The objective of the Program is to strengthen the capacity of Sakpatenti Intellectual Property Education and Training Center and to form a pool of trainers in order to enable the Program participants to plan and deliver high-level training on relevant IP topics tailored to different audiences in future.
At the second stage of training, a 5-day intensive training course was held onsite, at Sakpatenti head office, which was led by the WIPO Academy invited experts: Ms. hab. Justyna Ożegalska-Trybalska, Associate Professor, Jagiellonian University in Krakow, Poland, Mr. Omer Hiziroglu, CLP, Managing Partner, Azur Strategy, Cannes, France, and Ms. Hannah Grace Bazar, Training Specialist, the Philippines. The training was also attended by representatives of the WIPO Academy: Ms. Mariia Bychkovska and Ms Laura Carolina Gonzalez Parra.
The training session was held in interactive mode. Along with the basic teaching methodologies, the participants also got acquainted with recent developments in IP and technology transfer issues, including topics such as: copyright related to artificial intelligence, Big Data, and digital content; protection for databases and computer programs and applications; trademark protection on the Internet and social media; recent developments in patents; management of confidential (undisclosed) information and trade secrets, etc.
During the training, special attention was devoted to IP portfolio management, commercialization and licensing strategies, in addition, the significance of development of IP policy for universities and research institutions and strategies were also discussed.
Of the 22 participants involved in the ToT Program, there are 18 Sakpatenti staff members and 4 academic staff from partner universities, including Kutaisi International University, Tbilisi State University and Georgian Technical University.
After successful completion of all the three stages of the Program, participants will be handed over certificates of the WIPO Academy. It is also planned, with the involvement of certified trainers, to develop courses defined according to Sakpatenti priorities. The third, final stage of the Program will be held in October in online format.
