The Traditional Annual Festival “Chacha” – 2024, Supported by Sakpatenti, was Held in Telavi

With the support of the National Intellectual Property Centre of Georgia – “Sakpatenti”, the traditional annual Festival “Chacha” – 2024 was held in Telavi.
Farmers, peasants, small cellars and Chacha producing companies of all the eight municipalities of Kakheti Region participated in the Festival. The Festival is aimed by means of revealing the best samples of Chacha, to encourage and support them, as well as to popularize the traditional Georgia spirit “Chacha”, made from grape chacha (peels and pits of grapes), as a protected geographical indication and its wholesome properties.
At the event, Sakpatenti was represented by an exhibition stand, where the participants and visitors of the Festival got acquainted with mechanisms of registration and protection of geographical indications and appellations of origin. Information materials were also handed over to interested persons.
Within the Festival, the best producers of Chacha, individual farmers and peasants, as well as producing companies were revealed by a competition.
In the nomination “Gold Chacha Peasant – 2024”, Chacha distilled by individual enterprise “Lagvani Winery” located in Akhmeta (Chacha of Rkatsiteli and Mtsvane, made by traditional, triple distillation) was awarded the gold medal; the silver medal was awarded to Tamta Mchedlishvili from Dzveli Anaga, Sighnaghi district (Chacha of Rkatsiteli) and the bronze medal was won by Chacha distilled by Giorgi Amisulashvili from village Kolagi, Gurjaani district, (Chacha of Rkatsiteli and Kakhuri Mtsvane, aged for 1 year in an oak barrel).
Among the samples of Chacha produced by companies, the awards were distributed as follows: “Gold Chacha – 2024” was awarded to the company – “Spirtaura” – village Tibaani, Sighnaghi district (Rkatsiteli chacha); Winery “Koloti” – village Alaverdi, Akhmeta district, was awarded with the silver medal and a diploma (Chacha of Rkatsiteli, aged on oak bark, 20 months); and “Bronze Chacha – 2024” was awarded to Chacha of Dato Chikhladze Cellar (Chacha of Rkatsiteli, Kisi, Khikhvi and Kakhuri Mtsvane, aged for 2 years in an oak barrel), villages: Khirsa, Vejini, Marani and Maghrani.
Traditionally, the “Municipality Distinguished by Creativity” was also revealed. This year, the municipalities of Telavi, Kvareli and Akhmeta shared this title equally.
The annual Festival facilitates popularization of Chacha and in general geographical indications in Georgia, increasing their export potential and raising public awareness in this direction. The event was organized by the Georgian Chamber of Culture, the Tourism Development Association, the Administration of the State Trustee in Kakheti Region and the City Hall of Telavi Municipality. Together with Sakpatenti, the Chacha Festival – 2024 was supported by the Georgian National Tourism Administration and the National Wine Agency of Georgia.
