A Memorandum of Cooperation was Signed between Sakpatenti and Kutaisi International University

A Memorandum of Cooperation was signed between the National Intellectual Property Center of Georgia and Kutaisi International University (KIU). The Memorandum is aimed to deepen cooperation between the parties, to implement joint scientific and cognitive projects which will facilitate protection of intellectual property in the country, raising of public awareness, encouraging of innovative and inventive activities and raising qualification of students and graduates.
The Memorandum was signed by Mr. Soso Giorgadze, Chairman of Sakpatenti, and Professor Giorgi Khubua, Rector of Kutaisi International University. At the meeting it was noted that within the Memorandum, seminars, training sessions, panel discussions and information campaigns of various types will be held, which will raise public awareness on the importance of intellectual property protection. In addition, within the Memorandum of Cooperation, through the mediation with the European Patent Office (EPO), Sakpatenti will ensure access for KIU students and academic staff to the PATLIB training courses, in order to use actively patent information and relevant tools in scientific an research activity, which ultimately will facilitate commercialization and protection of innovative projects and research, as well as increasing competitiveness of the University on the international level and development of the innovative ecosystem in the country.
The meeting was attended by Ms. Nino Chikovani, Deputy Chairperson of Sakpatenti, Ms. Lali Amiranashvili, Head of Teaching and Training Center, Sakpatenti, and Ms. Tea Imedadze, KIU Chancellor.
In addition, it is noteworthy that the issue of introduction of the international Master’s program in intellectual property teaching in Georgia is on an active stage. It is planned to sign a trilateral memorandum between the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), Sakpatenti and KIU. The Master’s program –“Intellectual Property, Innovation and Entrepreneurship” is aimed at facilitation of access to intellectual property education at the Master’s level, support if higher education in intellectual property on the advanced stage and formation into the international IP attraction center in the region.
The WIPO Academy already conducts joint Master’s programs in IP with 18 reputable universities in 17 different countries of the world .
