Chairman of Sakpatenti Awarded the Participants of the “Leonardo da Vinci” Competition

Mr. Soso Giorgadze, Chairman of Sakpatenti, participated in the event on occasion of the World Science Day, held at Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University. Within the event, the award ceremony of the winners of the “Leonardo da Vinci” Competition for Student Inventors and Researchers as well as young and merited scientists took place.
It is noteworthy that from the foundation of the Competition, Sakpatenti is its loyal supporter and is actively involved in the process of assessment of competition works and selection of winning teams. Mr.Vasil Giorgadze, Examiner of Sakpatenti, Head of Mechanics and Physics Section, Department of Inventions and New Varieties and Breeds, is a permanent member of the Competition Commission, assessing the patentability of projects of young inventors according to the criteria of novelty, inventive step and industrial applicability. Sakpatenti is guided exactly by these criteria in granting a patent for any invention.
The Competition “Leonardo da Vinci” aims to stir the interest of pupils in innovation and technology, to develop creative thinking and inventive practical skills. The Competition stimulates learning process and promotes scientific and inventive activity among teenagers, and facilitates engagement and encouragement of interested researchers.
The Competition, which is held since 2011 with the support of the Ministry of Education, Science and Youth Georgia, is implemented by the LEPL Shota Rustaveli National Science Foundation of Georgia. Participants of the Competition are pupils of the 7th - 12th grades from public and private schools of Georgia. In the Competition 2024, 19 innovative projects moved to the final stage. At the summarizing award ceremony, the Competition Commission revealed winners of the Grand Prix, the 1st, 2nd and 3rd places, to whom prizes and monetary awards were handed over. In particular, the winner of the Grand Prix became the project “Eco Friendly Fish Farm”, the team of its authors was awarded with 10 000 GEL; the 1st place was won by the project “Unmanned Boat Cleaning Water from Oil”, the authors of which were awarded with 5 000 GEL; the project on the 2nd place is “Technology of Making V Class Membrane Kinematic Pairs for Space Purpose” and its authors were awarded with 3 000 GEL; the 3rd place was occupied by the project “THE TATMAN”, the team creating the project was awarded with 2 000 GEL.
Sakpatenti took active part in the final section of the Competition as well, in which Sakpatenti Chairman Mr. Soso Giorgadze awarded the team creating the project “High Technology Method of Making Wine in Qvevri”. Namely, the special prize of Sakpatenti was handed over to authors of the project: Iakob Avtandilashvili, Nikoloz Karbelashvili and Nino Sulamanidze. The authors of the project developed an automatic system mounted on the top of a qvevri, which ensures stirring the wine, cutting the grape chacha over the liquid and it distribution in the entire volume of the qvevri. The system is equipped with sensors of pressure, acidity and temperature and other additional mechanisms be means of which the process of operation of the entire system is controlled.

Roin Metreveli, President of the Georgian National Academy of Science, Mr. Teimuraz Dochviri, Director General of Shota Rustaveli National Science Foundation of Georgia, Mr. Soso Pkhakadze, President of the Business Association of Georgia and other invited guests participated in the event held on occasion of the World Science Day.
