Within the U.S. Embassy Program -“Mobile American Corner” - Pupils Visited Sakpatenti

Pupils living
in Tserovani Internally Displaced
Persons (IDP) settlement visited the
National Intellectual Property Center of Georgia – “Sakpatenti”. Their visit
was organized within the United States Embassy Program “Mobile American Corner”
(U.S. Embassy Bookmobile).
Sakpatenti Chairman hosted the pupils
personally. Mr. Soso Giorgadze spoke
with the youth about intellectual property, the role of education in personal
development and its necessity. At the meeting with the pupils, the Chairman of Sakpatenti
also focused attention on the economic potential of intellectual property. He
noted that protection and effective use of intellectual property is one of the
prerequisites for strengthening the process of economic development of the
country, which in its turn creates new industries and jobs.
At the same
time, the employees of the Office introduced to the youth the basics of
intellectual property, discussed the importance of intellectual property,
innovations and technological novelties, rules of registration and the essence
of trademarks, patents and geographical indications.
Sakpatenti Department of Trademarks,
Geographical Indications and Design, as well as the Department of Inventions
and New Varieties and Breeds delivered for the pupils extensive presentations
about the given field. In addition,
on the basis of practical examples, they shared with the pupils knowledge on intellectual
property. At the end of the presentations, the meeting was held in question and answer mode.
Events of this
type facilitate dissemination of information about protection of registered
unique Georgian products, in general, popularization of intellectual property,
kindling of interest in subject-matters of intellectual property protection
among the youth and formation of public opinion about their importance, as well
as demonstration of Sakpatenti
activities in this direction and
awareness raising about the Office in the public.
It is
noteworthy that the event was attended by Ms. Ani Tsintsadze, U.S.
Embassy Program “Bookmobile” Coordinator. The U.S. Embassy Program is functioning in three IDP settlements in
Georgia - Tserovani, Galavani and Prezeti.
“Bookmobile” of the U.S. Embassy is an integral part of American Spaces and serves the idea that American
Spaces are open-access learning and gathering places for
everyone. “Bookmobile” promotes interaction –
both in-person and virtual – among local audiences and the United States. At
present, more than 600 American Spaces are located in universities, shopping
malls, libraries and other public places, as well as on embassy compounds, in
more than 140 countries.
