Process of Digitization of Archival Materials Continues at Sakpatenti

At the National Intellectual Property Center of Georgia – “Sakpatenti”, the scientific-technical processing and digitization of documents formed in 1992-2017 entered an active phase. The work is carried out within the agreement signed between Sakpatenti and the National Archives of Georgia, in full compliance with the archival rules.

As of today, the documents of the Department of Inventions and New Varieties and Breeds for 1992-1996 (2341 cases) have already been processed, and processing of the documents of the Department of Trademarks, Geographical Indications and Design for 1992-1993 (1100 cases) is in progress. From October 2, digitization of processed paper archival documents began. The documents of the Department of Inventions and New Varieties and Breeds for 1992-1993 (980 cases/118 000 files) have been scanned and uploaded in the special program of the  electronic catalogue of the archive. 

The formation of the material and electronic of archive of Sakpatenti, which will continue from 2025 with participation of Sakpatenti staff members, is a long process and will last for approximately 5 years. Systemization of archival materials began in the spring of the current year. Scientific-technical processing (conducting paper-by-page examination, drawing up descriptions, preparation of records and their formation as files) of the material documentation from the establishment of the institution for permanent and long-lasting  storage is ensured by the National Archives of Georgia. As a result of digitization, an applied collection will be created in digital format, which will be available in the form of the digital archive catalogue.

In the conditions of accelerated digital transformation, the majority of organizations are facing the acute need for migration and systematization of paper documents into digital format. Modern digital technologies offer an opportunity of simplification and improvement of access to electronic documents. At the same time, digitization of material documents is the main method of diversification of information protection and a guarantee of permanent storage. Accordingly, creation of the material and digital archive of Sakpatenti will ensure easy and fast access to documents in electronic and material formats, as well as protection of information.
