Sakpatenti Celebrated the World Intellectual Property Day

Every year Sakpatenti joins the celebration of the World Intellectual Property Day, established by the Member States of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) in 2000. Celebration of this day aims to raise awareness of general public on intellectual property, to popularize this sphere and arouse interest in it.
The World Intellectual Property Day is the day of every inventor, scientist, artist and IP specialist. From the day of establishment, it is celebrated by presentation of a particular theme, which is announced by the World Intellectual Property Organization as the theme of the year. The theme of the World Intellectual Property Day of this year is: “IP and music: Feel the beat of IP”.
Exactly to the universal language of music and innovation in the field of music was dedicated the event of the National Intellectual Property Center – “Sakpatenti”, held in hotel “Paragraph Tbilisi”. The event was aimed to support creativity in music, to honour the contributions of musicians who continue to develop new sounds, styles and technologies, shape the future of music, evoke powerful emotions and make us feel the beat and rhythm of music in our everyday lives.
It is noteworthy that on occasion of the World Intellectual Property Day author-performers created and presented at the event a musical composition, permeated with elements of ethno music and innovative sounds of contemporary music.
Mr. Levan Zhorzholiani, Head of Administration of Government of Georgia, Ms. Nino Tsilosani, Vice-Speaker of the Parliament of Georgia, Mr. Soso Giorgadze, Chairman of Sakpatenti, and Ms. Tamar Gvarishvili, Chairperson of the Board of IPOA, addressed the participants of the event. Sakpatenti Chairman handed over the certificates of deposition of works in a solemn ceremony to composers Ms. Liliko Nemsadze, Mr. Kakha Tsabadze and Mr. Giorgi Sanodze.
Within the event, a memorandum of understanding was signed between Sakpatenti and IPOA, the document was signed by Mr. Soso Giorgadze, Chairman of Sakpatenti, and Mr. Giorgi Nikolaishvili, Director General of IPOA. It is noteworthy that on December 29, 2023, as a result of a large-scale reform carried out in the field of copyright and related rights, by the decision of the Accreditation Commission, accreditation for collective management of economic rights in the field of copyright and related rights was granted to IPOA.
The event held on occasion of the World Intellectual Property Day was attended by representatives of the legislative and executive authorities of Georgia, academic circles and sphere of culture.
