Sakpatenti is a Supporter of the Bolnisi Protected Designation of Origin Wine Festival

Sakpatenti participated in the Bolnisi Protected Designation of Origin Wine Festival, which took place for the third time with the slogan “Bolnisi – the Town of Golden Wine”. At the festival, more than 60 wineries from different regions of Georgia were represented, including wines of appellations of origin of large producers, small and medium-sized enterprises and family-owned wineries. The festival aims to popularize wines marked with appellations of origin, demonstrate the advantages of wines having this status and raise public awareness about them.

The Bolnisi Protected Designation of Origin Wine Festival was attended by wine importers, wine experts, bloggers, and tourism industry representatives from Italy and other European countries. The festival was presented by RMG. Together with Sakpatenti, the supporters of the festival were the “Wine Bolnisi” Association, Bolnisi Municipality City Hall, the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, the National Wine Agency and Bolnisi Agrocenter.

Mr. Soso Giorgadze, Chairman of Sakpatenti, addressed the festival participants and guests with a welcoming speech and spoke about the importance of the festival, which is a facilitating factor for producers of wine with these unique characteristics, which creates an opportunity for them to occupy their deserved place on the Georgian market and export the unique Georgian unique to the wide arena,  to the international market.

Within the event, the competition of wines of protected designations of origin took place. The wines presented at the festival were evaluated by a jury of wine experts and sommeliers having international experience. The winners were revealed during the main event of the festival. The wines winning the gold medals were revealed in a solemn ceremony. It is noteworthy that 11 wines winning gold medals will be presented by the Protected Designation of Origin Wine Festival at the Merano Wine Festival in Italy. 

During the festival, a wine exhibition and sale, tasting, as well as an exhibition and sale of industrial products offered by various entrepreneurs took place. Various food outlets and a children’s area were also presented. Among the educational activities, the part of professional masterclasses was noteworthy, which was opened by Ms. Darejan Mtchedlidze, Head of the Department of Trademarks, Geographical Indications and Design of Sakpatenti,  with a presentation on the registration procedures of appellations of origin and the protection mechanisms for the given subject-matter. The festival participants were also handed over the magazines about Georgian geographical indications and appellations of origin, printed in Sakpatenti, as well as the specifications and maps of wines of appellations of origin registered in Georgia.

The festival featured musical performances by various musical groups, including the ensemble “Alioni”, the trio “Samani” and the trio “Rustavi”.
