Training on Intellectual Property for Representatives of the Investigation Service of the Ministry of Finance

The Finnish model of investigation of intellectual property rights crimes and ways of collection of relevant evidence were introduced to the representatives of the Investigation Service of the Ministry of Finance of Georgia, the General Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia, the Customs Department of the Revenue Service, Sakpatenti and the private sector, attending the training held on October 25-27, 2016.
The training was held at the Training Centre of Sakpatenti within the TWINNING project – the European Union funded instrument for institutional cooperation between public administrations – “Capacity Building of the Investigation Service of the Ministry of Finance of Georgia”. The training was led by Finnish experts of the TWINNING project, representatives of the Customs Service of Finland Mr. Anssi Kartila and Mr. Arnaldo Squillante, who on the basis of teamwork discussed case studies. Sakpatenti Chairman Mr. Nikoloz Gogilidze introduced to the participants of the training the role and objectives of Sakpatenti in terms of intellectual property rights protection, offered an overview of the relevant legislative basis of Georgia and discussed the topics of protection of trademarks, patents, designs and copyrights. Representatives of the Investigation Service of the Ministry of Finance and the General Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia delivered presentations to share experience and best practices in investigation of facts of infringements in the intellectual property field and related legal proceedings.
The training took place within the memorandum of understanding signed between the National intellectual Property Centre of Georgia Sakpatenti and the Investigation Service of the Ministry of Finance of Georgia on August 23, 2016.
