A Memorandum of Cooperation was Signed between the Intellectual Property Offices of Georgia and the Republic of Tajikistan

Within the 66th Series of Meetings of the Assemblies of Member States of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), a meeting was held between the heads of the National Intellectual Property Center of Georgia – “Sakpatenti” and the State Institution “National Center for Patents and Information” of the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade of the Republic of Tajikistan. On the Georgian side, the meeting was attended by Mr. Soso Giorgadze, Chairman of Sakpatenti, and Ms. Nino Chikovani, Deputy Chairperson, and on the side of the Republic of Tajikistan – by Mr. Parviz Rajabzoda, Deputy Director of the “National Center for Patents and Information”.
During the meeting, the participants discussed deepening of cooperation between the parties, which will facilitate strengthening and development of the intellectual property systems of the two countries. For this purpose, on the initiative of the Tajikistan side, a memorandum was drafted in advance, which was officially signed at the meeting in Geneva. The document was signed by Mr. Soso Giorgadze and Mr. Parviz Rajabzoda.
It is noteworthy that the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan has adopted the “National Strategy on development of the Intellectual Property of the Republic of Tajikistan for the period up 2030”, which includes signing memorandums of cooperation with the patent offices of the countries which have achieved great success in the registration and protection of industrial property subject-matters. The negotiations carried out in the format of the Geneva meeting, which ended with the signing of the Memorandum of Cooperation, was conditioned by significant achievements of Sakpatenti in the field of registration and protection of industrial property subject-matters.
The close cooperation between the parties will be promoted by the exchange of information in the industrial property field, sharing of practices and experience, workshops and other joint educational activities on the role of industrial property in the development of the countries’ economies.
