October 13, 2025
The Gurjaani Wine Festival was held with the support of the National Intellectual Property Centre of Georgia –“Sakpatenti”. The festival, held in the heart of Kakheti, is a tradition of tasting wine, which has its roots in ancient times and was revived 9 years ago. In Akhtala Park, 546 winemakers and entrepreneurs were gathered who presented in one area wines of different tastes and colours, both freshly fermented and aged for years.
Mr. Irakli Kobakhidze, Prime Minister of Georgia, together with the members of the Government and the Parliament, attended the Festival. Mr. Soso Giorgadze, Chairman of Sakpatenti, showed the Head of the Government round the Sakpatenti corner at the Festival and informed him about the activities carried out at Sakpatenti in the direction of appellations of origin and geographical indications, ongoing processes and novelties introduced in this regard.
The Gurjaani Wine Festival serves to support the development of the unique and natural product - Qvevri wine, as a UNESCO intangible cultural heritage monument, and bottle wine, as a high-quality market product, to popularize wines of appellations of origin, promote wine tourism and introduce Georgian culture and traditions.
The National Intellectual Property Centre of Georgia, as a supporter organization of the event, actively participated in the Festival implementation process. During the celebration within the event, a corner of Sakpatenti was arranged – an exhibition stand with an appropriate banner and materials showing geographical indications were displayed. At the Sakpatenti corner, the visitors received information booklets, for interested persons Sakpatenti representatives delivered consultations on geographical indications and appellations of origin, and also took part in various activities held at the Festival.
The active involvement of the Office in the event will help dissemination of information on protection of registered unique Georgian products, their popularization, arousing interest in geographical indications and appellations of origin, raising public awareness on their importance, also showcasing Sakpatenti’s activity in this direction and enhancing its visibility in the public.
The Festival guests had an opportunity to get acquainted and taste various types of wine, made by farmers in Qvevri, by large and small wineries, as well as the winning wines of the IWSC wine judging in Georgia. At the Festival, a culinary area was also organized, where along with wines of different types, colours and ages, Chacha and other drinks, authentic dishes were presented, prepared on the spot by chefs invited to the Festival. The Festival guests had an opportunity to participate in the process of making churchkhelas and pressing grapes, sports competitions and other entertainment activities. In Akhtala Park, the Sommelier Show was also held, a Georgian market was arranged – an exhibition and sale of fruit and vegetables, Kakhetian sweets and handmade items.
This year, the Festival inspiration was the many-voiced Georgian wine, a drink that has passed a centuries-old path, adapted to the melodies of various periods, but never losing its original character – what made Georgia the homeland of wine. As in Georgian polyphony, different voices blend together harmoniously and create a single, unique sounding, genuine wine is a polyphony of tastes, aromas and sensations. The Gurjaani Wine Festival is a continuation of this continuous history – the place where Georgian tradition is revived every year.
