Mr. Soso Giorgadze Delivered a Speech on the International Forum “Intellectual Property and Artificial Intelligence” Held in Shanghai

Mr. Soso Giorgadze, Chairman of the National Intellectual Property Center of Georgia – “Sakpatenti”, visited the People’s Republic of China, where he participated in the 22nd Shanghai International IP Forum.
This year the theme of the Forum was “Intellectual Property and Artificial Intelligence”. The event was opened by Mr. Gong Zheng, Mayor of Shanghai, together with Dr. Shen Changyu, Commissioner of the China National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA), and Ms. Wang Binying, Deputy Director General of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO).
Mr. Soso Giorgadze, Chairman of Sakpatenti, delivered a keynote speech at the Forum. He noted that in order to recognize and register as intellectual property subject-matters the increasing possibilities of artificial intelligence and the products created using it, it is necessary to develop clearly defined rules and determine the scope of protection. This may be the best way to expand the area of use of artificial intelligence for social and scientific purposes, as well as in the field of delivering state and private services, which should ensure in future maximum benefit from artificial intelligence and avoiding possible threats.
It is noteworthy that the keynote speech on “Artificial Intelligence and Open Source Innovation” was delivered by Mr. Wang Jian, Director of Zhijiang Lab and founder of Alibaba Cloud.
The Forum was attended by senior officials from international organizations and state agencies, experts, representatives of academic circles and leading corporations of China and various countries.
Within the visit, Mr. Soso Giorgadze, Chairman of Sakpatenti, met with Dr. Shen Changyu, Commissioner of the China National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA). At the meeting, the parties discussed ongoing reforms in the field of intellectual property protection and agreed to deepen cooperation, including in the direction of protection of geographical indications.
The Shanghai International Forum was organized by CNIPA, the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and Shanghai Municipal People’s Government.
