Joint WIPO-Sakpatenti Webinar on the System of International Protection of Inventions will be Held

The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) in cooperation with the National Intellectual Property Center of Georgia – “Sakpatenti” is organizing a National Webinar: “Understanding the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) System: National Webinar for Georgian Applicants”.
The objective of the event is to introduce to the Georgian audience the PCT system – the international mechanism allowing authors of inventions and applicants to seek protection for inventions in multiple countries through a single application. This system considerably simplifies and accelerates the processing of international patent applications, reduces administrative barriers and in addition to deferral of expenses, increases the process efficiency.
The webinar is intended for inventors and applicants as well as lawyers, representatives of business and everyone interested international mechanisms for intellectual property protection.
Participation in the event will give the attendees an opportunity to get acquainted with the PCT basic principles, the international phase steps and the tools which play an important role in the global process of protection of inventions.
The webinar will be led by WIPO and Sakpatenti speakers who will overview such topics as: basic characteristics and procedures of the PCT system; the international phase of PCT applications; electronic platform – ePCT; International Standard ST26. Attention will be focused on practical advice which will facilitate efficient and effective use of the system.
The webinar will be held on November 19 online, on the Zoom platform, from 12:00 to 16:00 Tbilisi time. The working languages are Georgian and English, with simultaneous translation.
The webinar will be ended with a Q&A Session during which the participants will be allowed to ask specific questions to the speakers and receive recommendations based on case studies.
The webinar attendees will receive a certificate confirming participation, for which it is necessary to have a registered account on the WIPO IP Portal (https://www3.wipo.int/wipoaccounts/en/generic/public/register.xhtml), with the indication of a participant’s first name and last name in the English language, which will be reflected in the certificate.

It is noteworthy that the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) was adopted in 1970 and it currently has 158 contacting states. Georgia joined the PCT system in 1991.
