Representative from the WIPO Academy Visits the Renovation of the Sakpatenti Training Center in Kutaisi
December 12, 2025
Mr. Victor Owade, Counsellor, Academic Institutions and Executive Program, World Intellectual Property (WIPO) Academy, visited the site to review the ongoing renovation of the Sakpatenti IP Education and Training Center in Kutaisi. Ms. Nino Chikovani, Deputy Chairperson of Sakpatenti, introduced to the visitor the details of the works related to the relocation of the Training Center.
The Sakpatenti Training Center will be located in Kutaisi, in the former Parliament building, where, on the initiative of the Prime Minister of Georgia, a modern technological hub is being arranged. After completion of the project, the Training Center will consolidate all areas related to the dissemination of knowledge in the intellectual property field and will be equipped with modern, innovative technologies.
The Sakpatenti Training Center was established in 2015 on the basis of a Memorandum signed between the Government of Georgia and WIPO. With the support of the WIPO Academy and international partners, the Center has developed a multi-level intellectual property education system, which includes the International Program on Geographical Indications, the Intellectual Property Summer School, the distance learning course General Course on Intellectual Property (DL101GE), and other thematic trainings. Each year, the Center delivers 30–40 training activities, bringing together hundreds of participants. The relocation of the Training Center to Kutaisi is a decision of strategic importance, as the new infrastructure will provide a full cycle of training, research, and events in a single area.
As part of his programme, the WIPO Academy representative, Mr. Victor Owade, also carried out engagements in Kutaisi, where, together with the Chairman of Sakpatenti, Mr. Soso Giorgadze, and the Acting Rector of KIU, Mr. Vakhtang Tsagareli, he discussed the progress of the joint Master’s Program “Intellectual Property, Innovation and Entrepreneurship” and the strategies for its further development.
The joint international Master’s Program and the new Training Center, equipped with modern technologies, will significantly strengthen Georgia’s innovation ecosystem and reinforce the country’s positioning as a regional educational and research hub.
