Sakpatenti Awards the Selected Team of the Young Inventors and Researchers Competition “Leonardo da Vinci”

With the support and direct involvement of Sakpatenti, the Young Inventors and Researchers Competition “Leonardo da Vinci” was held for the fifteenth time this year. The Competition is also supported by the Ministry of Education, Science and Youth of Georgia. Since its establishment, “Leonardo da Vinci” has been organized by the Shota Rustaveli National Science Foundation of Georgia.
On behalf of Sakpatenti, Ms. Mery Macharashvili, Head of the Department of Inventions and New Varieties and Breeds, awarded the selected team, which presented the project “Monitoring System for Landslide-Prone Zones” at the Competition. The authors of the project developed a monitoring system that determines the direction of rock movement by means of receiving, transmitting and emitting coils, located deep in the soil.
At the event, Mr. Givi Mikanadze, Minister of Education, Science and Youth of Georgia and Mr. Zviad Gabisonia, Deputy Minister welcomed the participants. Ms. Mariam Lashkhi, Chairperson of the Education, Science and Youth Affairs Committee of the Parliament of Georgia, Mr. Jaba Samushia, Rector of Tbilisi State University and Mr. Teimuraz Dochviri, General Director of the Shota Rustaveli National Science Foundation of Georgia also delivered speeches at the award ceremony.
Nineteen innovative projects reached the final stage of the 2025 Competition, fifteen of which belong to the field of engineering sciences, and four – to scientific research. At the award ceremony, the winners of the Grand Prix and the projects winning the 1st, 2nd and 3rd places were revealed and their authors were awarded with prizes and monetary awards. The Grand Prix winners became the authors of the “Smart Desk Organizer for the Blind”, the first place was won by the team of the project “Monitoring System for the Deformation Bridges and Buildings ”, the second place was awarded to the authors of the project “Synthesis and Study of Biological Activity of Natural Phenolic Compounds Modified with Amino Acids”, and the third place was won by the team of pupils participating in the project “the Role of Peroxide as an Ecoenzyme in the Bioremediation of Water Contaminated with Paints”.
The “Leonardo da Vinci” Competition aims to develop innovative, technical and creative thinking among pupils, promote popularization of scientific and inventive activities among teenagers and arouse interest in the field of innovations from the school age. Pupils of the 7th -12th grades of public and private schools of Georgia participate in the Competition.
Since the foundation of the Competition, Sakpatenti has been its loyal partner and supporter. Sakpatenti representative is actively involved in the process of assessment of the Competition works every year. Mr. Vasil Giorgadze, Head of Mechanics and Physics Section, Department of Inventions and New Varieties and Breeds, is a permanent member of the Competition Commission. The highly qualified examiner assesses projects of young inventors according to three main criteria of patentability: novelty, inventive step and industrial applicability. In determining patentability of inventions, Sakpatenti is guided exactly by these criteria.
Fostering interest in the intellectual property field among the youth, attracting and involving them in inventive and creative processes remains one of the priority directions of Sakpatenti activity, which is an important basis for the innovative development of the country.
