“AI and the Future of IP Examination” – Online Training Session was Held at Sakpatenti

An online training session “AI and the Future of IP Examination” was held at the headquarters of the National Intellectual Property Center of Georgia –“Sakpatenti”, organized by Sakpatenti and the International Trademark Association (INTA).
The training aimed to introduce participants the potential of using Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the field of trademark law and examination, including legal, ethical and practical aspects.
The event was opened by Mr. Soso Giorgadze, Chairman of Sakpatenti, who highlighted the growing influence of Artificial Intelligence in the intellectual property field. The Chairman emphasized the importance of enhancing professional qualifications and sharing best practices in this direction, which will facilitate introduction of innovative work processes and alignment of Georgian practice with international standards.
International experts from Germany, Sweden, and Switzerland shared their experience with participants, focusing on modern approaches in trademark and design law practice. The session also covered the legal and ethical aspects of using Artificial Intelligence, the impact of AI on the concept of the “Average Consumer”, the role of AI in the work of trademark lawyers, and use of Large Language Models (LLM) to support applications and workflows.
Together with the staff members of Sakpatenti Department of Trademarks, Geographical Indications and Design and Legal Department, the training session was attended by intellectual property specialists, trademark experts, patent attorneys, representatives of the academic, students and other interested parties.
The International Trademark Association (INTA) is an international not-for-profit professional association, founded in 1878. Its membership includes more than 6,600 organizations and nearly 38,000 professionals from over 180 jurisdictions. The association unites companies working in the intellectual property field, lawyers, patent attorneys, academics, and government representatives. Its mission is to promote the effective protection of trademarks and brands and development of the relevant legal systems at the international level.
Sharing the knowledge and long-term experience of INTA experts within the framework of the above-mentioned event will facilitate development of the trademark system in Georgia and its alignment with international standards.
