March 25, 2026
A two-day training titled “Intellectual Property at Museums: Practical and Legal Aspects” was delivered to the staff of the Georgian National Museum, organized by the Intellectual Property Education and Training Center of the LEPL National Intellectual Property Center of Georgia – “Sakpatenti”.
The training aimed to enhance
the knowledge of the Georgian National Museum staff in the field of
intellectual property law, thereby contributing to the improvement of their
qualifications in this area. During the meeting, the intellectual property
subject-matters were considered which are important for effective functioning
of museums and overcoming challenges existing in the process of work. The
training focused on copyright and, more broadly, on the role of intellectual
property in the protection of cultural heritage, as well as on the legal
aspects of the digitization of collections and the rules for publishing content
on the Internet. In addition, participants discussed the protection of museum
symbols, logo registration, and the prevention of unauthorized use of such
symbols by third parties.
Raising awareness in the field
of intellectual property and sharing experience with representatives of various
public agencies is a priority for Sakpatenti, in order to assist them in
addressing IP-related issues through the application of knowledge-based skills.
The training was led by Ms.
Darejan Mtchedlidze, Head of the Department of Trademarks, Geographical
Indications and Designs, and Ms. Anuki Oboladze, Head of the Legal Department
of Sakpatenti.
At the end of the event,
certificates of completion were awarded to the participants.
