Visit of Executive Director of WIPO Intellectual Property Academy to Georgia

On September 13 and 14, 2016, Mr. Sherif Saadallah, Executive Director of World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) Intellectual Property Academy, paid an official visit to Georgia.
During the meeting with Mr. Nikoloz Gogilidze, Chairman of National Intellectual Property Center of Georgia Sakpatenti, the progress of the WIPO/Sakpatenti joint project related to the Intellectual Property Academy was considered and future cooperation plans were outlined, such as drafting a regional professional course on the protection of geographical indications, participation of schoolchildren in educational projects in the intellectual property field, translation of the WIPO Academy courses into the Georgian language and their adaptation.
Within the visit, meetings were held at the Ministry of Agriculture of Georgia, where the representatives of the National Wine Agency delivered a presentation on the current mechanisms and infrastructure of protection of appellations of origin of Georgian wines. This will allow drafting a course of professional education on geographical indications in Georgia in future.
Meetings were held at various universities of Georgia, Georgia’s Innovation and Technology Agency (GITA) and with future lecturers of the Intellectual Property Academy.
During the meeting with Mr. Tamaz Marsagishvili, Deputy Minister of Education and Science of Georgia, the Deputy Minister reiterated that Georgia is highly interested in participating in educational projects available in the intellectual property field.
