May 27, 2026
The presentation of the first issue of the scientific-popular magazine “Mematiane”, dedicated to the 210th anniversary of Ekaterine Chavchavadze, was held at Zviad Gamsakhurdia Presidential Center in the city of Zugdidi.
The magazine “Mematiane” was printed in Sakpatenti printing facility, within the Memorandum of Cooperation signed between Sakpatenti and the Art Palace of Georgia, in December 2025. The presentation was attended by participants of the IV Scientific Conference of the Union of Palaces and Museums and staff members of Sakpatenti. The attendees were addressed by Mr. Giorgi Kalandia, Director of the Union of Palaces and Museums, and Mr. Soso Giorgadze, Chairman of Sakpatenti. The speakers highlighted the life and work of Ekaterine Chavchavadze, her special role in the development of Georgian culture and public life.
Ekaterine Chavchavadze was an outstanding representative of the Georgian aristocracy of the 19th century, the daughter of famous Georgian poet and public figure Aleksandre Chavchavadze, the wife of David Dadiani, the Prince of Samegrelo, and later the regent, who played an important role in the political life of that period. The publication is enriched with unique photo illustrations which allow the readers to travel through the historical period of the 19th century. The guests of the event were hosted by David Okujava, Manager of the Dadiani Palaces Historical and Architectural Museum of the Union of Palaces and Museums, together with the staff members of the Center.
It is noteworthy that in the age of digital media and artificial intelligence, printed publications acquire special importance, as one of the effective forms of protection and promotion of cultural heritage. Hence, facilitation of similar publishing and informational projects are a priority for Sakpatenti, as it serves as a platform that enables dissemination of knowledge on intellectual property, support of cultural values and raising public awareness in this direction. This cooperation once again emphasizes the importance of close connection between the spheres of culture, history and intellectual property.
The founders of the publication of the scientific-popular magazine are the Royal Asiatic Society of Georgia and the Union of Palaces and Museums. The publication was prepared with the support of the Shota Rustaveli National Science Foundation of Georgia. The magazine is published quarterly.
