Head of Sakpatenti Education and Training Center Participated in the International Advanced Certificate Program in Strasbourg

Ms. Lali Amiranashvili, Head of the Education and Training Center of the National Intellectual Property Center of Georgia – “Sakpatenti”, participated in the advanced certificate training program on Intellectual Property, Technology Transfer and Licensing. The program  is implemented in cooperation with CEIPI, WIPO Academy and the National Institute of Industrial Property of France (INPI) and is aimed to develop the practical and strategic competencies of the participants in the direction of intellectual property management, technology transfer, commercialization of research results and licensing. 

The training program was implemented in three stages. At the first stage, the participants completed the distance learning course “Intellectual Property Management (DL-450)”, and after successful passing of the exam, the second stage covered a one-week intensive training in Strasbourg. The final, certificate stage of the program was carried out on the basis of the successful completion of the first two stages. 

Within the six-week training program, important issues for the development of the intellectual property and innovation ecosystem were discussed. During the training process, the participants got acquainted with the information on creation and development of Technology Transfer Centers (TTOs), cooperation between intellectual property offices and technology transfer structures, as well as licensing practices and drafting relevant agreements. At the training, attention was focused on formation of startups and spin-of companies, the participants also discussed strategies for supporting innovation and raising awareness in the intellectual property field. 

Within the program, the participants were hosted at Strasbourg Municipal Hall, where at an official reception they were met by Mr. Abdelaziz Choukri, Vice-President of Ville et Eurométropole de Strasbourg in charge of higher education, research and student life, and Municipal Councillor.

In addition, the participants visited Inserm Est, a biomedical research center of the University of Strasbourg, where they got acquainted with the ongoing research in the field of biomedicine, the process of developing innovations and case studies of technology transfer. 

Representatives of 19 countries: Brazil, Germany, Türkiye, the United Kingdom, Ghana, Jamaica, Kenya, Morocco, Philippines, Poland, Rwanda, Thailand, Uganda, Zimbabwe, Nigeria, Vietnam, Portugal, Switzerland and Georgia, participated in the program. 

The above-mentioned program facilitates deepening of professional knowledge in the intellectual property field, sharing of international experience, and adoption of modern mechanism of technology transfer and licensing, which is important for development of the innovation ecosystem and intellectual property system in Georgia.
