Seminar on Internet Service Providers Liability

On July 10-11, with the support of the Government of the United States of America, Commercial Law Development Program (CLDP) of the U.S. Department of Commerce and the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), a meeting was held at Sakpatenti Office, during which the US legislation, approaches and practical cases on Internet Service Providers Liability were discussed.
On July 10, the meeting was attended by representatives of the private sector. US experts familiarized the representatives of “Magticom”, “Bravo Records”, “Caucasus Online”, “Silknet”, “Microsoft Georgia” and other companies with the US secondary liability system and other issues related to Internet Service Providers Liability (ISPs).
Representatives of the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia introduced to the participants the draft Law of Georgia on Electronic Commerce, which partially envisages Internet Service Providers Liability, and discussed drafting a package of legislative amendments in this direction.
On July 11, the meeting took place on the same topic for representatives of Government Agencies of Georgia.
Development of an effective system of Internet Service Providers Liability is one of the obligations under the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Agreement with the European Union (DCFTA). For better fulfilment of this obligation, on July 27, a meeting will be held within the TAIEX program, during which the European Union approaches and experience on Internet Service Providers Liability will be introduced to the participants.
