Mr. Giorgi Kvirikashvili, Prime Minister of Georgia, Met with Mr. António Campinos, Executive Director of the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO)

Integration of Georgian databases into European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) trademark and design databases is launched, was noted during the meeting of Mr. Giorgi Kvirikashvili, Prime Minister of Georgia, with Mr. António Campinos, Executive Director of the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO). The parties considered issues of cooperation between Georgia and EUIPO.
It was noted during the meeting that development of the intellectual property system and IPR protection is one of the main priorities for the Government of Georgia. The significance of the issue in terms of the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Agreement with the European Union (DCFTA) was stressed. Attention was focused on prospects of development of cooperation between EUIPO and National Intellectual Property Centre of Georgia Sakpatenti. Hope was expressed that integration of databases will enable foreign users to receive information on marks/designs registered in Georgia, whereas it will be possible for Georgian users to search in EUIPO databases by means of the Georgian interface.
EUIPO Executive Director Mr. António Campinos calls the progress made through cooperation between the European Union Intellectual Property Office and National Intellectual Property Centre of Georgia impressive. “I informed the Prime Minister of Georgia about the fantastic progress achieved within the Memorandum of Understanding signed between the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) and the National Intellectual Property Centre of Georgia Sakpatenti. Creation of the relevant infrastructure, databases, user-oriented legislation is vitally important to ensure a greater GDP, employment and export. The work done by the entire team of the National Intellectual Property Centre of Georgia Sakpatenti is absolutely obvious. Over a short period after signing the Memorandum of Understanding, an intellectual property database was created, which unites not only the 28 member countries of the European Union, but also much more countries. So I congratulate Georgia”, - noted Mr. António Campinos after the meeting.
The meeting held at the Government Administration was also attended by Ms. Irma Kavtaradze, Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia, and Mr. Nikoloz Gogilidze, Chairman of the National Intellectual Property Centre of Georgia Sakpatenti.
