The registration procedure of six Georgian appellations of origin has been completed at the Federal Service for Intellectual Property of the Russian Federation. The exclusive right for the appellations of origin “Khvanchkara”, “Tvishi”, “Akhasheni”, “Tsinandali”, “Mukuzani” and “Kindzmarauli” on the territory of Russian Federation was granted to the National Wine Agency.
National Intellectual Property Center of Georgia Sakpatenti filed an application for registration of the above-mentioned appellations at ROSPATENT on June 18, 2013. After completion of the necessary procedures, the registration term of “Khvanchkara”, “Tvishi” and 4 more appellations was defined in the State Register of the Appellations of Origin of the Russian Federation until June 18, 2023.
Protection of appellations of origin in the Russian Federation will facilitate combatting illegal use of well-known Georgian appellations.
