
ELSA’s Summer school is held in Georgia
Today, on 25th of July (2016), summer school of “Intellectual Property Law” was opened by the initiative of the European Law Students Association in Georgia. This year Georgia is hosting 35 students of 15 European countries who will participate in the course on Intellectual Property Protection during one week. Students will visit Georgia’s Innovations and Technology Agency (GITA) and the National Intellectual Property Center of Georgia “Sakpatenti”. During Summer School program , the lectures will be given by the representatives of Sakpatenti, Georgian Copyright Association, GITA , the association of Patent attorneys and World Intellectual Property organization.

Georgian Lawyers are Familiarizing with the US Experience
Today, on July 14, the Workshop on Adjudication of Civil Intellectual Property Infringement Cases opened in Kobuleti with the participation of Georgian judges. The workshop is organized by the Commercial Law Development Program (CLDP) of the U.S. Department of Commerce, the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), the United States Embassy in Georgia and the National Intellectual Property Center of Georgia Sakpatenti.

Seminar on Internet Service Providers Liability
On July 10-11, with the support of the Government of the United States of America, Commercial Law Development Program (CLDP) of the U.S. Department of Commerce and the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), a meeting was held at Sakpatenti Office, during which the US legislation, approaches and practical cases on Internet Service Providers Liability were discussed.

Searching of Marks/Designs Registered in Georgia is Already Possible in European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) Databases
Sakpatenti trademark and design databases were integrated into the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) databases - TMview and Designview. From today, July 7, foreign users can receive information on marks/designs registered in Georgia on the European Union Intellectual Property Office website. In addition, users will be able to search in EUIPO databases by means of the Georgian interface. Sakpatenti has also joined the TMclass platform, which allows searching and translating the list of goods and services in 42 languages.

Integration of Georgian databases into European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) trademark and design databases is launched, was noted during the meeting of Mr. Giorgi Kvirikashvili, Prime Minister of Georgia, with Mr. António Campinos, Executive Director of the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO). The parties considered issues of cooperation between Georgia and EUIPO.

Sakpatenti at San Diego State University Employment and Internship Forum (2016)
On June 10, 2016, the first employment and internship forum of San Diego State University took place at Radisson Hotel, Tbilisi, organized by Millennium Challenge Foundation-Georgia (MCA-Georgia) and San Diego State University (SDSU-Georgia). During the event, representatives of public and private sectors met with successful students of San Diego State University and discussed with them education and internship prospects.

WIPO Lisbon Agreement Working Group Meeting will be chaired by Nikoloz Gogilidze
Chairman of Sakpatenti, Mr. Nikoloz Gogilidze was elected as a Chair of the Working Group for the Preparation of Common Regulations under the Lisbon Agreement and the Geneva Act of the Lisbon Agreement at the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO).

Today, on June 2, 2016, a sub-regional seminar “Intellectual Property Policies in Universities and Research Institutions” was opened, organized by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and the National Intellectual Property Center of Georgia Sakpatenti. During the seminar the current situation regarding IP policies at universities in Georgia will be discussed, experience of Israel on the use of IP policies at universities and research institutions as well as WIPO guidance will be introduced to the participants.
Georgian Students will Participate in the Master’s Program on Intellectual Property in Turkey
On the invitation of the National Intellectual Property Center of Georgia Sakpatenti, Mr. Habip Asan, President of the Turkish Patent Institute (TPI), is paying an official visit Tbilisi. Today, on June 2, 2016, at Sakpatenti Office, a memorandum of understanding was signed between the National Intellectual Property Center of Georgia Sakpatenti and the Turkish Patent Institute, which provides for cooperation in the field of industrial property protection. Within the memorandum, the intellectual property offices of the two countries will cooperate in the direction of capacity building of examiners, sharing of experience and best practices, training programs will also be drafted for the Intellectual Property Educational Center of Georgia. In addition, the memorandum envisages support in participation of Georgian students in the Master’s Program on intellectual property in Turkey, organization of joint conferences and seminars and holding consultations in the process of drafting new legislative acts in the intellectual property field.

Georgia will also be Represented at INTA 2016
Sakpatenti will participate in the Annual Meeting of International Trademark Association (INTA). Information on Georgia will be introduced to representatives of companies owning more than 9500 well-known brands worldwide, law firms and offices related to the intellectual property field. The meeting, which is the most significant event in the world with respect to trademarks, will be held on May 21-25, 2016 in Orlando (Florida, USA).
