On March 2-4, 2017, an Istanbul International Inventions Fair was held, in which National Intellectual Property Center of Georgia Sakpatenti participated, along with 264 organizations from 24 countries. For 4207 registered visitors of the Fair, 324 inventions were presented. The event was organized under the patronage of the Ministry of Science, Industry and Technology of Turkey, International Federation of Inventors Associations (IFIA), World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), European Patent Office (EPO) and Turkish Patent and Trademark Office (Turkpatent). The Sakpatenti’s main aim in participating at the Fair is to facilitate increase of patent applications number from Turkey, as the major importer country for Georgia.
Within the Fair, a bilateral meeting was held between the heads of the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office and Sakpatenti. Mr. Nikoloz Gogilidze and Mr. Habip Asan discussed the ongoing projects in the framework of the Action Plan and future cooperation plans. In March 2017 Turkish patent and trademark examiners will visit Sakpatenti to share experience with Georgian examiners. In July, a sub-regional symposium on geographical indications and an exhibition of products protected by Turkish and Georgian geographical indications will be held in Trabzon, Turkey. The event will facilitate raising awareness of these products in the two countries, and, accordingly, will lead to increasing the import.
Mr. Nikoloz Gogilidze expressed gratitude to the Head of Turkpatent for accepting Georgian examiner in the WIPO/Turkpatent joint master’s program.
On the second day of the Fair, a meeting of Georgian and Turkish patent attorneys was held, it aimed to familiarize Georgian and Turkish intellectual property systems and strengthening cooperation. A group of 20 Turkish patent attorneys will visit Georgia at the end of April and will hold meetings with various target groups. Within the visit, Turkish patent attorneys will familiarize with the intellectual property system of Georgia, which will facilitate increasing the number of applications between two countries.
