A new Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the National Intellectual Property Centre of Georgia – “Sakpatenti” and the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO).
The document was signed by Ms. Manana Pruidze, Acting Chairperson of Sakpatenti, and Mr. Christian Archambeau, Executive Director of EUIPO. The Memorandum envisages strengthening cooperation in the intellectual property field between the European Union and the Georgian Intellectual Property Offices as well as sharing of information and experience. In particular, cooperation within the Memorandum covers development of the trademark and design areas, also implementation of joint educational and awareness raising activities in the field of intellectual property rights enforcement. The target group of the activities implemented within the Memorandum will be Sakpatenti staff, users and holders of intellectual property rights, with the special emphasis on small and medium-sized entrepreneurs.
During the meeting the parties discussed the cooperation between Sakpatenti and EUIPO, joint projects and achieved results as well as activities implemented within the ongoing EU-Georgia Intellectual Property Project (EUGIPP). The Project is financed by the European Union and is implemented on the basis of the Memorandum of Understanding between Sakpatenti and EUIPO.
The new Memorandum of Understanding between the parties was signed for the term of 4 years.
EUIPO is the European Union Intellectual Property Office responsible for managing the EU trade mark and the registered Community design. EUIPO also works with the IP offices of the EU Member States and international partners to offer a similar registration experience for trade marks and designs across Europe and the world.
