At the initiative of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), the 36th Session of the Committee on Development and Intellectual Property (CDIP) was held at WIPO headquarters in Geneva. Representatives of observer organizations and Member States participated in the session, including Ms. Salome Tsimakuridze, Head of the Administration Department of Sakpatenti.
During the session, participants discussed issues related to monitoring and evaluating the implementation of the Development Agenda recommendations, including the Report of the WIPO Director General. Discussions also focused on WIPO’s contribution to the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), as well as on the outcomes of completed projects.
Special attention was devoted to new initiatives related to the impact of Artificial Intelligence (AI) on creative industries and the protection of creative works in the digital age. The role of intellectual property in supporting and strengthening small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), as well as creative economies and innovation ecosystems, was also discussed.
Within the framework of the discussions, the importance of women’s active involvement in the field of intellectual property protection was highlighted. Participants also discussed the implementation of inclusive activities aimed at strengthening the role of women and, more broadly, raising awareness about the importance of intellectual property protection.
Sakpatenti actively participates in the implementation of projects initiated within the framework of the CDIP. During the session, the Office once again reaffirmed its readiness to make a significant contribution to ongoing as well as future projects and initiatives.
Following the conclusion of the session, final recommendations were adopted, which will later be submitted to the WIPO General Assembly for consideration.
It is noteworthy that the Committee on Development and Intellectual Property (CDIP) was established in 2007 by a decision of the WIPO General Assembly. The Committee represents an important institutional platform that ensures international coordination of intellectual property protection and development policies.
