The World Intellectual Property Organization Experts Visited Sakpatenti
November 05, 2026

Within
the framework of cooperation between Sakpatenti and the World Intellectual
Property Organization (WIPO), a working meeting was held on issues related to
the protection of trademarks in international markets. Following the meeting, the
WIPO experts provided individual consultations to
representatives of Georgian companies.
The
consultations aimed to gain a better understanding of the needs of Georgian
companies and provide them with practical recommendations on the international
protection of trademarks, the use of the Madrid System and related
international registration procedures.
During
the meetings, company representatives introduced their areas of activity and
plans for entering and expanding into international markets to the foreign
experts. They also highlighted the challenges they face in protecting their
trademarks abroad. The meetings provided business representatives with an
opportunity to receive practical advice tailored to their needs regarding
trademark protection and the management of existing registrations in their
countries of interest.
Within
the working visit, WIPO representatives also visited the Head Office of
Sakpatenti in Mtskheta, where they familiarized themselves with the activities
of the Department of Trademarks, Geographical Indications and Design. The WIPO
experts discussed together with Sakpatenti staff practical issues related to
functioning of the Madrid System and opportunities for future cooperation.
In
addition, the foreign guests were hosted by the company Château Mukhrani. As
part of the visit, they learned about the company’s activities. Meetings of this kind facilitate the exchange of experience,
a better understanding of the needs of Georgian businesses, and the effective
use of intellectual property protection mechanisms. Proper protection of their
brands in international markets helps companies pursue their commercial
interests, reduce legal risks, and strengthen their competitiveness.
