Sakpatenti starts working on introduction of ISO standards
Within the EU-Georgia Intellectual Property Project (EUGIPP), work is being started to obtain ISO 9001:2015 certificate for Sakpatenti. In order to discuss the mentioned issue, Mr. Mindia Davitadze, Sakpatneti Chairman met with Mr. Ibon Ormazabal, EUGIPP project leader, representative of International Cooperation and Legal Department of European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO). EUIPO together with Sakpantenti is implementing EUGIPP and development and modernization of the management system of intellectual property body is one of the important components of the project.

departments of Sakpatenti and for the representatives of the executive bodies.
Implementation of the simulative processes became possible due to the EU funded
twining project (GE/16 ENI EC 0318)) on “Establishing Efficient Protection and
Control System of Geographical Indications (GIs) in Georgia”.

Sakpatenti introduced the Final Version of the Draft Amendment to the Statute of the Chamber of Appeals to the Patent Attorneys
For the purpose of formulation and systemic refining the norms related to hearing of appeals and regulation anew of various procedural issues, the work is drawing to a close at Sakpatenti on the draft amendments to the Statute of the Chamber of Appeals of the Office. To finalize the viewpoints concerning the draft, to share the vision of the Office, in general, and the process of development of its strategy, Sakpatenti Chairman held a meeting with the patent attorneys. At the meeting the issues related to the reformation of the institution of patent attorneys were discussed. It is noteworthy that attestation of patent attorneys has not taken place since 2011.

To maintain a high-level bilateral cooperation platform on economic and trade issues between the USA and Georgia, Mr. David De Falco, Deputy Assistant Secretary of the U.S. Department of Commerce, within his virtual visit to Georgia, met with Sakpatenti Chairman Mr. Mindia Davitadze.

Logo for Geographical Indications will be Developed within the Twinning Project – 6th meeting of the Steering Committee of the Project was Held
Steering Committee of the EU funded Twinning Project on “Establishing Efficient Protection and Control System of Geographical Indications (GIs) in Georgia” gathered for the sixth time, during which the Action Plan for the next 6 months and the implementation reports of the previous period (6 months) were considered. The Project envisages rendering assistance to Georgia in development of the unique marketing tool, the geographical indications system and the full-fledged application of the benefits related to it. The meeting of the Steering Committee was attended by all parties involved in the Project: Delegation of the European Union to Georgia, management and staff members of the partner office, representatives of the Embassies of France and Italy in Georgia.

Sakpatenti will take over coordination of CEBS Group at WIPO in 2021–Mr. Mindia Davitadze and Mr. Daren Tang discussed the Plan of Cooperation for the Next Year
Increasing Georgian representation at WIPO and the issue of the coordination of the Central European and Baltic States Group (CEBS) in 2021 was the central topic of the meeting of Mr. Daren Tang, Director General of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), and Mr. Mindia Davitadze, Chairman of the National Intellectual Property Centre of Georgia Sakpatenti, that was held in the remote mode on December 8, 2020.

Mindia Davitadze – By the Government Decision, during the Pandemic Period, 50% Reduction in the Fees for Trademark Registration is Introduced
In order to reduce expenses for businesses and increase the opportunity to receive additional benefits, which will leave at least 700 000 GEL in the private sector, Sakpatenti puts forward an initiative to introduce a reduction. Within the package of additional measures offered by the Government of Georgia to support business during the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, Intellectual Property Center will apply 50% reduction in the fees for trademark registration in case of electronic filing of applications.

Creativity and Intellectual Property in Georgian Schools – Training of Teachers was launched within EUGIPP
Within the EU-Georgia Intellectual Property Project (EUGIPP) first distance training was delivered for 12 teachers of 6 public schools of Tbilisi, Rustavi and Gori in order to develop relevant skills for teaching creativity and intellectual property concepts.
