
Training on Intellectual Property for Representatives of the Investigation Service of the Ministry of Finance
The Finnish model of investigation of intellectual property rights crimes and ways of collection of relevant evidence were introduced to the representatives of the Investigation Service of the Ministry of Finance of Georgia, the General Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia, the Customs Department of the Revenue Service, Sakpatenti and the private sector, attending the training held on October 25-27, 2016.

Sakpatenti Chairman will Deliver a Lecture at Kyiv School of Law
On September 29, 2016, Sakpatenti hosted Professor Yuriy Boshytsky, Rector of Kyiv University of Law of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. During the meeting Sakpatenti Chairman Mr. Nikoloz Gogilidze and Prof. Boshytsky discussed educational programs available in Ukraine and Georgia in the intellectual property field and stressed the significance of cooperation between Georgia and Ukraine in this respect. The parties also outlined plans for mutual cooperation within Sakpatenti Intellectual Property Training Centre. At the meeting the parties agreed to draft a joint action plan. In addition, Sakpatenti Chairman was officially invited to Kyiv University of Law to deliver a lecture for students on problematic issues in the intellectual property field.

Sakpatenti Occupies the 5th Position in the Rating of Accessibility of Public Information 2016
A certificate of IDFI has been handed over to Sakpatenti once again. National Intellectual Property Centre of Georgia Sakpatenti was nominated among 55 public institutions with the 100% rate in accessibility of public information. The award ceremony of the most open and the least open public institutions in Georgia was held at Courtyard Marriott hotel on September 28, 2016 - the International Day for Universal Access to Information.

Women’s Role in Country Development
New prospects of business development were discussed during the Conference “Women’s Role in Country Development”, held on September 28, 2016. Up to 100 entrepreneur women familiarized with programs, specially designed to support entrepreneur women as well as with new opportunities of financial and technical assistance. Mrs. Sophio Mujiri, Deputy Chairperson of National Intellectual Property Centre of Georgia Sakpatenti, delivered a presentation on tools of intellectual property rights protection for the participants of the event. Taking into account the great interest displayed by the audience with respect to the issue, it was planned to organize for entrepreneur women meetings on various topics, during which different subject-matters of intellectual property will be discussed.

Cooperation between Sakpatenti and APO has Moved to a New Stage
On September 26, a delegation of the Austrian Patent Office (APO), headed by its President Ms. Mariana Karepova, paid an official visit to Tbilisi. A bilateral meeting took place at Sakpatenti office between the representatives of National Intellectual Property Centre of Georgia Sakpatenti and APO to discuss issues related to cooperation. Heads of the two offices agreed to draft an action plan, which will reflect a number of joint activities: capacity building trainings in Austria for Sakpatenti examiners; consultations with respect to development of innovation activities and the patent voucher program; organizing an educational course at Sakpatenti Training Centre with the participation of Austrian examiners.

National Intellectual Property Strategy
On September 15-16, a Sub-Regional Conference on Intellectual Property Strategies will be held at Courtyard Marriott hotel, organized by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) in cooperation with the National Intellectual Property Center of Georgia Sakpatenti.

Visit of Executive Director of WIPO Intellectual Property Academy to Georgia
On September 13 and 14, 2016, Mr. Sherif Saadallah, Executive Director of World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) Intellectual Property Academy, paid an official visit to Georgia.

A Memorandum of Understanding was Signed between the National Intellectual Property Centre of Georgia Sakpatenti and the Investigation Service of the Ministry of Finance of Georgia
A Memorandum of Understanding was concluded between the National Intellectual Property Centre of Georgia Sakpatenti and the Investigation Service of the Ministry of Finance of Georgia. The document was signed by Mr. Giorgi Badashvili, Head of the Investigation Service, and Mr. Nikoloz Gogilidze, Chairman of Sakpatenti.
International Conference “Georgia Against Counterfeiting in the Context of DCFTA” brings to Georgia best practice in enforcement of intellectual property rights
Batumi, 1 August 2016 – an international conference on European and international standards and experiences in enforcement of intellectual property rights (IPR) opened in Batumi today.

Workshop on Internet Service Provider (ISP) Liability
On 26 of July, within the framework of TAIEX, a meeting was held on “Internet Service Provider (ISP) Liability”, which was organized by EU Delegation to Georgia and the National Intellectual Property Center Sakpatenti . The meeting was attended by the representatives of the private and public sector who got familiar with the EU law, approaches and experience on “Internet Service Provider (ISP) Liability”. During the meeting the existing problems of IPR infringement and legal mechanisms of copyright enforcement have been discussed. Based on the practical cases internet piracy mechanisms and Internet Service Provider (ISP) Liability was outlined.
