The 9th Anti-Scam Network Meeting was held in Alicante, Spain, organized by the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO). Georgia as EU Candidate Country participated in the meeting held in Alicante for the first time. On behalf of the National Intellectual Property Center, Ms. Nino Chikovani, Deputy Chairperson of Sakpatenti, attended the event.
Staff Members of Sakpatenti are Passing Coaching in the Fields of Biotechnology-Pharmacy
Examiners of the European Patent Office (EPO) delivered coaching sessions in the fields of biotechnology and pharmacy for the staff members of the Chemistry-Medicine and Biology Division of the Department of Inventions and New Varieties and Breeds of Sakpatenti. The meeting was held in hybrid mode.
Digitization of Paper Archival Materials is Starting at Sakpatenti
An agreement was signed between Sakpatenti and the National Archives of Georgia, based on which the National Archives will provide archival services to Sakpatenti for the purpose of creating material and electronic archives of the Office.

The Parliament Adopted the Draft Law “On Patent Attorneys of Georgia” for the Third Reading
Today, the Parliament of Georgia adopted for the third reading the draft Law “On Patent Attorneys of Georgia”, which will regulate issues related to acquisition of patent attorneys qualification, registration and activity as well as issues of creation and functioning of the Association of Patent Attorneys.

Sakpatenti Representatives Participated in the Conference on Judicial Practice Organized by the European Union Intellectual Property Office
On April 29-30, the 5th IP Case Law Conference on Intellectual Property, organized by the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO), was held in Alicante, Spain. The event was attended by Ms. Tika Nebieridze, Deputy Chairperson of Sakpatenti, and Ms. Dea Tchitcinadze, Head, Division of Trademarks and Geographical Indications.
The Joint Project of Sakpatenti and the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) on Supporting Tushetian Guda Producers is Completed
On April 30, the closing event of the joint project of the National Intellectual Property Center of Georgia – “Sakpatenti” and the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) was held. The “Project on Collective Management, Branding and Commercialization of Selected Registered GI in Georgia” was a one-year project and was aimed to support the farmers, associations and entrepreneurs who produce unique Georgian products marked with geographical indications and appellations of origin.

To Celebrate the World Intellectual Property Day, Sakpatenti Hosted Students from 13 Universities of Georgia
April 26 is the World Intellectual Property Day. On occasion of this date, Sakpatenti hosted students from 13 different universities at the Head Office in Mtskheta.
At the event, the Chairman of the office, Mr. Soso Giorgadze, spoke to the students about the role of the youth in the development of the intellectual property field. He noted that in the period of innovations and new technologies, intellectual property is an important investment, which, in fact, determines the progress and development of the country in all key directions, whether economy, industry, agriculture, science or culture. Arousing interest in intellectual property among the youth, informing them about the recent developments in this field and deepening knowledge are prerequisites for the development of this area and, accordingly, a possibility of further improvement and elaboration of the intellectual property protection system.

The First Meeting of the Republic of Moldova-Georgia Joint Committee on Geographical Indications was Held
The first meeting of the Republic of Moldova-Georgia Joint Committee on Geographical Indications was held in videoconference format. Together with representatives of Sakpatenti, representatives of the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia, the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia and the Revenue Service of the Ministry of Finance of Georgia participated in the meeting.
Representatives of the Evaluation Mission of the EU Project EU4IP are Visiting Georgia
Within the visit of the representatives of the evaluation mission of the European Union project EU4IP (“Strengthening Intellectual Property Rights in Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine to Support EU Accession”), the Project leader Mr. Ibon Ormazabal is visiting Georgia. The objective of the mission is to meet with stakeholders and hold technical discussions for drafting the action plan for the first year.
