The Draft Law of Georgia on Appellations of Origin of Goods and Geographical Indications was Discussed at the Offsite Sitting of the Agrarian Issues Committee of the Parliament of Georgia

The Agrarian Issues Committee of the Parliament of Georgia at the offsite sitting, held in Akhmeta Municipality, discussed the draft Law of Georgia on Appellations of Origin of Goods and Geographical Indications. The draft Law is initiated by the Agrarian Issues Committee of the Parliament of Georgia. The draft is co-authored by the National Intellectual Property Center of Georgia – Sakpatenti and is prepared with the support of the European Union within the Twinning Project “Establishing Efficient Protection and Control System of Geographical Indications (GIs) in Georgia”. 

Results of the Audit of the Activities of the Georgian Copyright Association are Known

Along with other functions defined by the legislation, the National Intellectual Property Center of Georgia - Sakpatenti is responsible for the implementation of the state policy in the field of copyright and related rights. Sakpatenti is authorized by law to study any information related to the management of authors’ property rights.

Relations between the European Patent Organisation and the National Intellectual Property Center of Georgia - “Sakpatenti” are Moving to a New Stage

Today, the Sector Economy and Economic Policy Committee of the Parliament approved at the Committee reading the “Agreement between the Government of Georgia and the European Patent Organisation (EPO) on Validation of European Patents” (Validation Agreement) and the draft amendments to be entered in the Patent Law of Georgia.

The EU-Georgia Intellectual Property Project (EUGIPP) is drawing to a close. The Project, which is implemented by the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) with the support of the European Union, is aimed to develop and strengthen the intellectual property system in Georgia. IP Case-law Compilation of European Court Decisions was Published in the Georgian Language

The IP case-law compilation of European court decisions was presented at the High School of Justice. The compilation was published in the Georgian language within the EU-Georgia Intellectual Property Project (EUGIPP). The work has been compiled on the basis of the decisions of the General Court of the European Union (GCEU), the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU) and the Boards of Appeal (BOA) of the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO).

April 26 is the World Intellectual Property Day

On April 26, 1970, the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) officially started functioning. 30 years later, in 2000, this day was declared as the World Intellectual Property Day.

It is noteworthy that in Georgia, very soon after restoration of its independence, on August 20, 1992, the Patent Office of Georgia “Sakpatenti” was established.
