Training on Geographical Indications is Held for Bolnisi Local Producers
Tamarisi early strawberry, Kachagani early peach and cherry, Marneuli early potato and tomato, Tsalka late potato, Dmanisi wheat and pepper - this is an incomplete list of the products, identified as potential geographical indications in Kvemo Kartli region. Therefore, National Intellectual Property Centre of Georgia “Sakpatenti” organized and held training on geographical indications and appellations of origin for “Bolnisi Agro Center” staff and local producers.
Conference on the Geographical Indications from Black Sea Basin was Held in Batumi
On meeting held in Batumi on June 3, 2022 where representatives of organizations engaged in the geographical indications system discussed the situation in the Black Sea Basin countries on geographical indications. “International Business Development and Investment Promotion Center’s” (IBDIPC) organized Conference covered issues such as the object and importance of appellation of origin and geographical indication, Georgian geographical indications products, current situation on their registration and protection, international cooperation practices and European experience in this field.
Today The Amendments to the Patent Law of Georgia were Discussed at the Session of the Budget and Finance Committee
Sakpatenti is working on introducing a third - faster and cheaper way of obtaining a patent for an invention in Georgia by filing a European patent application and requesting its validation in Georgia. To attract international applicants in such a manner and to ensure patent protection according to the European standards, the Agreement on Validation of European Patents (Validation Agreement) was signed between the Government of Georgia and the European Patent Organisation (EPO) in 2019. For entry into force of the Agreement it is necessary to harmonize the Patent Law of Georgia with the European Patent Convention (EPC), the international agreement the Patent Law Treaty (PLT) and the legislation of the European Union countries. To ensure the above-mentioned, Sakpatenti has already drafted the relevant amendments and the Government of Georgia has submitted them to the Parliament.

A necessary pre-condition for entry into force of the Agreement between the Government of Georgia and the European Patent Organisation (EPO) on Validation of European Patents (Validation Agreement), signed in 2019, is reflection of the provisions stipulated by the Validation Agreement in the legislation of Georgia and its approximation to the legislation of the European Union countries. This implies harmonization of the Patent Law of Georgia with the European Patent Convention (EPC) and the Patent Law Treaty (PLT). Sakpatenti has already drafted the relevant amendments and the Government of Georgia has submitted them to the Parliament.
Tailored Training was Delivered by Sakpatenti for Academic Staff of European and Kutaisi Universities
Patent, invention, utility model, copyright and related rights, their inception, protection and operations– these were the topics introduced to the representatives of European and Kutaisi Universities at the training organized by Sakpatenti Training Center. The training activity which was led by tutors of the National Intellectual Property Center of Georgia – “Sakpatenti”, was attended by representatives of the Faculties of Law, Business and Medicine of the Universities.
Delegation of “SPICI” was Hosted at Sakpatenti
A delegation of the Digital Academy SPICI s.r.l., company for Innovation, Science Cooperation and Internationalization, is visiting Georgia. Objective of the visit is to familiarize with the innovations ecosystem and its contributing offices of Georgia. Digital Academy operates under the Technological Park of the Federico II University of Naples. To get acquainted with the activities implemented by Sakpatenti to promote innovations an international accelerator and entrepreneurship centre SPICI delegation visited Sakpatenti Head Office.
“Oqureshi Usakhelouri” Acquires the Status of an Appellation of Origin
Soon “Oqureshi Usakhelouri” will be added to the State Registry of Appellations of Origin registered in Georgia. The procedure of registration of the new appellation of origin at the National Intellectual Property Center of Georgia – “Sakpatenti” is at the final stage.
“IP as Valuable Assets” – Online Course in the Georgian Language was launched on the EUIPO Academy Portal
Within the cooperation of the National Intellectual Property Center of Georgia – “Sakpatenti” and the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO), an online course was developed and launched in Georgian language. It is a first time in the history of EUIPO Academy that non-EU member country language online course is offered at the learning portal of the Academy. The course was developed in the framework of the EU - Georgia Intellectual Property Project (EUGIPP) and is available for public.
Sakpatenti is working on Introducing IP Pre-diagnostic Services
International IP expert Ms. Alison Orr delivers 2-day training course at Sakpatenti premises for centre staff members. The main topics of the session are IP commercialisation and management, identifying intangible assets of companies, challenges and ways of their overcoming. The objective of the event is to train Sakpatenti officials on performing IP pre-diagnostic services. The event is organized within the EU Georgia Intellectual Property (EUGIPP) Project.
Pupils of Gori Public School №8 Won in the Competition of Infographics Created on the Intellectual Property Theme
A competition “Be Innovative for a Better Future” was held within the week of activities dedicated to the World Intellectual Property Day. One of the main conditions of the competition, which was fulfilled best of all by a team made up of pupils from Gori Public School №8, was to create an infographic with the content related to the World Intellectual Property Day theme. The ceremony of revealing and awarding the winner took place at Courtyard Marriott hotel on April 27.
