
Sakpatenti Representative is Attending the International Conference “Worldwide Perspectives on Geographical Indications”
Experts on geographical indications from various countries of the world are gathered in Montpelier. On July 5, 2022, the International Conference “Worldwide Perspectives on Geographical Indications” was opened in France, co-organized by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the French Agricultural Research Centre for International Development (CIRAD). The meeting is attended by the Georgian delegation, a member of which is Mr. Irakli Kasradze, Acting Head of the Legal Department of Sakpatenti.

The Swiss Federal Institute of Intellectual Property (IPI) is Hosting the Delegation of Georgia
To get acquainted with the peculiarities of the geographical indications system, a Georgian delegation is visiting Bern on the invitation of IPI, which is a significant member of the geographical indications system of the Swiss Confederation. Mr. Irakli Kasradze, Acting Head of the Legal Department of Sakpatenti, is a member of the delegation.

25 Schools are Joining the Project “Creativity and Intellectual Property in Georgian Schools”
“Creativity and IP in Georgian
Schools” is a component
of the EU - Georgia Intellectual Property Project (EUGIPP). It will
be repeated and implemented extensively this year. In addition to existing 4 schools engaged in the project, 21 schools from
the regions of Georgia will join the project in 2022-2023. Within the training
activity, aimed to support integration of creativity and intellectual property
issues into the basic education system, Sakpatenti tutors will train 100
teachers. The IP education syllabus
includes practical teaching methodology. The knowledge received at the trainings, will
allow teachers to deliver IP lesson at schools. Its main objective is to stimulate
creativity and innovation in pupils. 1000 pupils will be involved in the
above-mentioned project.

Sakpatenti Continues Working on Introducing IP Pre-Diagnostic Services - the Office Staff are Attending the Follow-up Training
IP rights protection and commercialization, ways of identifying intangible assets are the main topics discussed at the follow-up training course delivered for Sakpatenti staff. Today, on June 30, 2022, a training activity was launched within the EU Georgia Intellectual Property (EUGIPP) Project, which is aimed to train Sakpatenti officials on performing IP pre-diagnostic services for small and medium-sized entrepreneurs. The training is delivered by international IP expert Ms. Alison Orr.

EUGIPP Project Leader Visited Sakpatenti to Evaluate Progress of the Project and its Separate Components
To get acquainted with the progress of the international cooperation
project for the support of the intellectual property system “EU Georgia Intellectual
Property Project (EUGIPP)”, Project Leader Mr. Martin Marianov and Project
Coordinator Mr. Andrea Iori visited Sakpatenti. The objective of the visit is
to discuss the progress of the project components, and to participate in the event
to be held in Tbilisi within the project. The visitors familiarized with the activities
of the Department of
Trademarks, Geographical Indications and Design, Legal Department and the
Department of Inventions and New Varieties and Breeds of Sakpatenti

The Report on Sakpatenti Activities on Promoting Innovation was Introduced at the Conference Summarizing the STEM Mentors Course Project
The training course for STEM mentors, organized by Millennium Foundation with the support of Sakpatenti, implemented during one year throughout Georgia, ended with a tangible result. According to the report presented at the final conference, up to 40 teachers of various public schools of Georgia have been trained. By Acquired, knowledge teachers can introduce to pupils new technologies and arouse interest in various disciplines of sciences and engineering. In addition, the teachers participating in the course established STEM clubs in their schools, the purpose of the clubs is to facilitate development of skills for creating projects in these fields.
Sakpatenti will Award a Special Prize for the Project Satisfying the Patentability Criteria, Presented at the Millennium Innovation Award Competition
Sakpatenti organized a webinar “Intellectual Property - from Idea to Innovation” for the finalists of the Millennium Innovation Award Competition. The participants received detailed information on procedures of obtaining a patent and rules of drafting an application for preliminary patent search. In 2022 Sakpatenti offers a special prize for projects which will satisfy the patentability criteria, it should include novelty, inventive step and industrial applicability. To evaluate those criteria’s, the finalist teams can submit an electronic application for preliminary search at Sakpatenti, according to search reports Sakpatenti will nominate team for special prize.
Sakpatenti will Ensure Consolidation of the Standards of the Official Language in the Activity of the Office
A memorandum of understanding was signed between the National Intellectual Property Center of Georgia – “Sakpatenti” and the Department of the Official Language. According to signed document, Sakpatenti and the Department of the Official Language will implement joint educational, research and other forms projects. The ceremony of signing the memorandum took place at Sakpatenti head office and the document was signed by Ms. Nino Chikovani, Acting Chairperson of Sakpatenti, and Mr. Giorgi Alibegashvii, Head of the Department of the Official Language.

“Tqemali” Acquires the Status of a Geographical Indication
Geographical indication “Tqemali” will be added to the Registry of geographical indications registered in Georgia. The registration procedure at the National Intellectual Property Centre of Georgia – “Sakpatenti” is at the final stage, as a result of which the official information, together with the application materials submitted for registration, will be published in the Official Bulletin on Industrial Property on June 10 of the current year. If within 3 months from the publication, no additional information is submitted to Sakpatenti, “Tqemali” will be added to the State Registry of Geographical Indications.

“Ajika” Acquires the Status of a Geographical Indication
Granting the status of a geographical indication to “Ajika” means that the distinctiveness, uniqueness and high quality of this product will be recognized and confirmed by the state. According to the procedure, the official information, together with the application materials submitted for registration, will be published in the Official Bulletin on Industrial Property on June 10 of the current year. If within 3 months from the publication, no additional information is submitted to Sakpatenti, “Ajika” as a geographical indication will be added to the State Registry of Geographical Indications.
