Announcement
Concerning the information broadcasted on one of the TV channels yesterday, National Intellectual Property Center of Georgia “SAKPATENTI”, would like to inform the public and emphasize that one of main principles of SAKPATENTI’s activities is political neutrality.
In April-May, 2020, for the management of SAKPATENTI, it became known that the Head of Trademarks, Geographical Indications and Designs Department, Irakli Kasradze, had under examination process the trademark applications mentioned in TV broadcast. The actions of the Head of the Department pertaining the registration process raised questions about the possible use of the registration process of these trademarks for political purposes. In order to avoid discrediting and damage to the reputation of the organization, Mr. Kasradze was deprived of his delegated authority on the basis of the decision of SAKPATENTI’s management. The trademark applied for by one of the TV companies has been registered, without his involvement and within the terms prescribed by the legislation fully in compliance with the requirements of the law and the relevant notice was immediately sent to the applicant company. The other trademark mentioned in the TV broadcast has been registered earlier, in May, 2020.
We would like to once again highlight that the National Intellectual Property Centre of Georgia SAKPATENTI is respecting its internationally acknowledged authority and high reputation both inside the country and abroad. Therefore, SAKPATENTI will not allow attempts of misuse of the position for political purposes and will take all necessary measures to prevent the latter in future as well.
