Georgia will Vice-Chair 2020 WIPO General Assembly
Today, on October 9, 2019, the Fifty-Ninth Series of Meetings of the Assemblies of the Member States of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) ended in Geneva, Switzerland, which was attended by the delegation of the National Intellectual Property Centre of Georgia Sakpatenti, headed by its Chairman Mr. Genadi Lebanidze.
Visit of US Congress Staffers to Sakpatenti
Today, on October 2, 2019, at the office of the National Intellectual Property Centre of Georgia Sakpatenti, a meeting took place between the heads of various structural units of Sakpatenti and the US Congress staffers, visiting Georgia. The parties discussed progress achieved as a result of mutual cooperation and outlined plans for the future.

Sakpatenti Joined DesignClass
National Intellectual Property Centre of Georgia Sakpatenti has joined DesignClass, the tool of the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO), which allows using the list of terms from the harmonized databases of product indications (HDBPI). Users will be able to search and translate harmonized product indications into 27 languages, including Georgian, from 30 intellectual property offices.

Today, on September 24, 2019, an exhibition and tasting of goods protected by Georgian and foreign geographical indications opened the International Conference on Geographical Indications, organized by the National Intellectual Property Center of Georgia (Sakpatenti) and OriGIn – the Global Alliance of Geographical Indications.

Tbilisi, 23 September 2019
Two hundred delegates from 30 countries gathered today in Tbilisi for oriGIn 2019 Biannual Meeting. “We are glad to see once again the participation and enthusiasm of our members, whom did not miss the opportunity to review the work carried out over the last biennium and plan oriGIn future activities. This confirms that oriGIn is a crucial actor of the Geographical Indications global debate. On behalf of our members, I would like to thank our partners – the National Intellectual Property Centre of Georgia (SAKPATENTI) and oriGIn Georgia – which did a tremendous job to organize this 3-day gathering.

Scientific Picnics 2019
Today, on September 17, 2019, within the “Science and Innovations Festival 2019”, a scientific picnic took place in Telavi, in the yard of the Historical Museum. The National Intellectual Property Centre of Georgia Sakpatenti is one of the participants of the event.
Professional Development Training Course on Geographical Indications
Today, on September 16, 2019, the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) professional development Training Course on Geographical Indications opened at the National Intellectual Property Centre of Georgia Sakpatenti. This year, the international, English-language training course, organized by the WIPO Academy and the Training Centre of the National Intellectual Property Centre of Georgia Sakpatenti, is held in Georgia for the third time.

“Kindzmarauli” Export Will Have No More Problems in Mongolia
Registered Georgian appellation of origin “Kindzmarauli”, Georgian wine varieties “Saperavi”, “Rkatsiteli”, and mark “Alaznis Valley”, registered in bad faith on the territory of Mongolia by Mongolian company “’Tavanbogd International” LLC, were invalidated.

Today, on July, 2019, the second meeting of the Steering Committee of the EU funded Twinning Project on “Establishing Efficient Protection and Control System of Geographical Indications (GIs) in Georgia” (GE/16 ENI EC 0318) took place at the Head Office of the National Intellectual Property Center of Georgia Sakpatenti, during which the Action Plan for the next 6 months and the conducted activities were presented.
