
Georgian, U.S. and European Judges are Discussing Judicial Practice on Disputes Related to Intellectual Property Subject-Matters in Batumi
On July 29-30, the Workshop on Adjudication of Civil Intellectual Property Infringement Cases was opened in Batumi, organized by the National Intellectual Property Center of Georgia – “Sakpatenti” and the Commercial Law Development Program (CLDP) of the U.S. Department of Commerce. The joint event of CLDP and Sakpatenti was opened by Mr. Skip Mark, Senior Counsel of CLDP. Mr. Soso Giorgadze, Chairman of Sakpatenti, and Mr. Vasil Mshvenieradze, Chairman of the Independent board of the High School of Justice, Chairman of Tbilisi City Court, delivered opening remarks to the participants of the workshop.

The U.S. Department of State Assesses Positively the Activity of Sakpatenti
The U.S. Department of State
released the 2023 Investment Climate Statements (ICS), in which it is said that
the
National Intellectual Property Center of Georgia (Sakpatenti) provides legal
protection for intellectual property objects in Georgia. The Department of
State notes in its report that relevant agencies of the United States cooperate
actively with Sakpatenti on IPR-related issues and work jointly in this direction
to raise public awareness. According to the report, the legislation of Georgia
in the field of protection of intellectual property rights is in compliance
with the international standards, at the same time, the role of Sakpatenti is
assessed positively in the process of working on further improving domestic
legislation and its harmonization with international standards.

Trans-Caspian Intellectual Property Forum is Held in Batumi
On July 27, the
Trans-Caspian Intellectual Property Forum was opened in Batumi, organized by
the National
Intellectual Property Center of Georgia – “Sakpatenti” and the Commercial Law
Development Program (CLDP) of the U.S. Department of Commerce. The
CLDP/Sakpatenti joint event was opened by Mr. Soso Giorgadze, Chairman of
Sakpatenti. Mr. Skip Mark,
Senior Counsel of CLDP, addressed the forum participants with opening remarks.

Sakpatenti and the Commercial Law Development Program (CLDP) of the U.S. Department of Commerce are Holding Joint Events in Batumi
On July 24, the 7th International Conference “Georgia Against Counterfeiting and Piracy” was opened in Batumi, co-organized by the National Intellectual Property Center of Georgia – “Sakpatenti” and the Commercial Law Development Program (CLDP) of the U.S. Department of Commerce. The joint event of the CLDP and Sakpatenti was opened by Mr. Tornike Rijvadze, Chairman of the Government of the Autonomous Republic of Adjara. Opening remarks to the conference participants were delivered by Mr. Soso Giorgadze, Chairman of Sakpatenti, and Mr. Skip Mark, Senior Counsel, CLDP. The conference is attended by Mr. Vaja Panozishvili, Deputy Head, Investigation Service of the Ministry of Finance of Georgia, and Mr. Zurab Sichinava, Head of the Customs Department of the Revenue Service of the Ministry of Finance.

Mr. Soso Giorgadze Met with President of the European Patent Office (EPO)
Mr. Soso Giorgadze, Chairman of Sakpatenti, within the 64th Series of Meetings of the Assemblies of Member States of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), met with Mr. António Campinos, President of the European Patent Office (EPO). At the meeting the parties considered the issue of implementation of the Agreement between the Government of Georgia and the European Patent Organisation on Validation of European Patents (Validation Agreement).

Mr. Soso Giorgadze Met with Director of the National Institute of Intellectual Property of the Republic of Kazakhstan
Mr. Soso Giorgadze, Chairman of Sakpatenti, held a meeting in Geneva with Mr. Yerbol Ospanov, Director of the National Institute of Intellectual Property of the Republic of Kazakhstan. At the meeting, deepening of the cooperation between the countries in the field of intellectual property was discussed. The parties agreed to sign a Memorandum of Cooperation between the National Institute of Intellectual Property of the Republic of Kazakhstan and Sakpatenti in the near future. At the meeting special attention was paid to the issue of mutual recognition of geographical indications.

Within the 64th Session of the General Assembly of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), Mr. Soso Giorgadze, Chairman of Sakpatenti, met in Geneva with Mr. Cemil Başpinar, President of the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office (TURKPATENT). The aim of the meeting was to deepen and strengthen cooperation between the two countries in the direction of intellectual property.

Within the 64th session of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) General Assembly, representatives of the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) held a meeting in Geneva with the Heads of Intellectual Property Offices of the Eastern Partnership countries. The meeting was attended by Mr. Soso Giorgadze, Chairman of the National Intellectual Property Center of Georgia, and Ms. Nino Chikovani, Deputy Chairperson.
