
Georgia will Host the Worldwide Symposium on Geographical Indications
The Worldwide
Symposium on Geographical Indications, by the decision of the World
Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), will be held in Georgia. On June 14
and 15, Tbilisi will host the forum which will be attended by representatives
of international and national associations, international organizations, national
administrations of various countries, national intellectual property offices,
associations of producers of GI products and GI specialists from around the
world. The event, which is held every two years, is organized jointly by WIPO
and the National Intellectual Property Center of Georgia.

Paid Internship Program was Launched at Sakpatenti – Chairman Met with Appointed Interns
Mr. Soso
Giorgadze congratulated personally the first four winners of the paid
internship vacancy announced by Sakpatenti on their appointment. Sakpatenti
Chairman met with the interns on their first working day and wished them
success.

Prime Minister met with Chairman of the National Intellectual Property Center
Mr. Irakli
Garibashvili, Prime Minister of Georgia, met with Mr. Soso Giorgadze, Chairman
of the National Intellectual Property Center of Georgia.
During
the meeting, the Chairman of Sakpatenti informed the Prime Minister about the
projects implemented by the National Intellectual Property Center and
introduced the future plans.

The WIPO Global Awards Annual Competition is Receiving Applications until March 31
The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) has opened the 2023 edition of its Global Awards competition. The competition is seeking enterprises and individuals, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) of inventors, creators and designers that make smart use of intellectual property to achieve their business goals and harness their innovation and creativity for the progress and good of society.
700 Lessons on Intellectual Property were Delivered, Attended by 2200 Pupils
The project “Creativity and IP in Georgian Schools” is over. Within the project, organized by the National Intellectual Property Center of Georgia and the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO), aimed to introduce teaching of intellectual property in the school education, 108 teachers from 28 schools were trained in the intellectual property teaching methodology. During the past academic period they delivered 700 lessons on intellectual property. The lessons were attended by 2200 pupils from schools of Kvemo Kartli, Shida Kartli, Kakheti, Imereti, Racha-Lechkhumi and Kvemo Svaneti and the Autonomous Republic of Ajara. The teacher training curriculum included study of intellectual property basics and practical sessions. The project also envisaged provision of teachers with a guide published in the Georgian language, books, brochures, table games and other necessary items.

Mr. Soso Giorgadze is Meeting Representatives of the Government of the USA in Washington
On February 9, within the visit to the USA, Mr. Soso Giorgadze, Chairman of the National Intellectual Property Center of Georgia Sakpatenti, held a working meeting in Washington with Mr. Steve Gardner, Chief Counsel for the Commercial Law Development Program (CLDP) at the U.S. Department of Commerce.

Mr. Soso Giorgadze Met with Advisor to the President of the USA
Mr. Soso Giorgadze, Chairman of the National Intellectual Property Center of Georgia Sakpatenti, met with Ms. Kathi Vidal, Director of the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), who at the same time is the Under Secretary of Commerce for Intellectual Property of the USA and the IP advisor to the President of the USA. The meeting took place at the USPTO head office in Alexandria (Virginia, USA).

Mr. Soso Giorgadze is Paying a Working Visit to the United States of America
Mr. Soso Giorgadze, Chairman of the National Intellectual Property Center of Georgia – Sakpatenti, is visiting the USA on the invitation of the Unites States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
During the visit, the Chairman of Sakpatenti will participate in the Administration Program organized by the USPTO, which will be held on February 6-10, 2023, in Alexandria (Virginia).

Sakpatenti Announced Vacancy for Paid Internship
In order to prepare qualified staff in the intellectual property field, to ensure their professional development and to develop their practical skills, Sakpatenti has announced a vacancy. The vacancy envisages selection of 10 candidates for passing internship at the Department of Inventions and New Varieties and Breeds. The internship will be paid.

Agreement on the Mutual Recognition and Protection of Geographical Indications was Signed between Georgia and the Republic of Moldova
Chacha, Churchkhela, Sulguni and dozens of Georgian geographical indications are becoming the object of special protection on the territory of the Republic of Moldova. Today, on February 1, 2023, Mr. Soso Giorgadze, Chairman of the National Intellectual Property Center of Georgia Sakpatenti, and Mr. Eugeniu Rusu, Director General of the State Agency on Intellectual Property (AGEPI) of the Republic of Moldova, signed the interstate Agreement on the Mutual Recognition and Protection of Geographical Indications of the two countries.
