Within the Worldwide Symposium on Geographical Indications, an exhibition of Georgian products protected by geographical indications was opened in Sheraton Grand Tbilisi Metechi Palace Hotel. The participants of the Worldwide Symposium will have an opportunity to familiarize with the unique Georgian products.

Georgia is Hosting the Worldwide Symposium on Geographical Indications
On June 14-16, the Worldwide Symposium on Geographical Indications is held in Georgia, organized jointly by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and the National Intellectual Property Center of Georgia – “Sakpatenti”. This is a global forum, which provides a platform for discussing challenges in international and national systems of protection of geographical indications, perspectives and sharing experience. Within this large-scale event, Tbilisi is hosting up to 300 representatives from 62 countries: Türkiye, Italy, France, Switzerland, USA, China, India, Cameroon and other countries. Along with this, up to 800 participants from various countries of the world will join the Symposium remotely.

“Georgia Against Counterfeiting and Piracy” – International Conference is Planned to be Held in Batumi

develop effective mechanisms of intellectual property rights enforcement and
introduce modern tendencies of combating counterfeiting and piracy, on July
24-25, 2023, the 7th International
Conference “Georgia Against Counterfeiting and Piracy” will be held in Batumi.
The event is co-organized by Sakpatenti and the Commercial Law Development
Program (CLDP) of the U.S. Department of Commerce.
The Draft Law of Georgia on Appellations of Origin of Goods and Geographical Indications was Discussed at the Offsite Sitting of the Agrarian Issues Committee of the Parliament of Georgia
The Agrarian Issues Committee of the Parliament of Georgia at the offsite sitting, held in Akhmeta Municipality, discussed the draft Law of Georgia on Appellations of Origin of Goods and Geographical Indications. The draft Law is initiated by the Agrarian Issues Committee of the Parliament of Georgia. The draft is co-authored by the National Intellectual Property Center of Georgia – Sakpatenti and is prepared with the support of the European Union within the Twinning Project “Establishing Efficient Protection and Control System of Geographical Indications (GIs) in Georgia”.

Results of the Audit of the Activities of the Georgian Copyright Association are Known
Along
with other functions defined by the legislation, the National Intellectual
Property Center of Georgia - Sakpatenti is responsible for the implementation
of the state policy in the field of copyright and related rights. Sakpatenti is
authorized by law to study any information related to the management of authors’
property rights.

European Patents will be Recognized in Georgia

Parliament approved the Agreement between the Government of Georgia and the
European Patent Organisation on Validation of European Patents (Validation
Agreement).

The Sector Economy and Economic Policy Committee of the Parliament Discussed the Draft Law on Appellations of Origin of Goods and Geographical Indications
Today, the Sector Economy and Economic Policy Committee of the Parliament of Georgia discussed the Draft Law on Appellations of Origin of Goods and Geographical Indications, initiated by the Agrarian Issues Committee. The draft amendments are aimed to support development of the system of appellations of origin and geographical indications in Georgia.

Relations between the European Patent Organisation and the National Intellectual Property Center of Georgia - “Sakpatenti” are Moving to a New Stage
Today, the Sector Economy and Economic Policy Committee of the Parliament approved at the Committee reading the “Agreement between the Government of Georgia and the European Patent Organisation (EPO) on Validation of European Patents” (Validation Agreement) and the draft amendments to be entered in the Patent Law of Georgia.
