
Qvevri – Sakpatenti Registered Geographical Indication
Chairman of the National Intellectual Property Centre of Georgia - Sakpatenti, Mr. Mindia Davitadze, signed the certificate of registration of “Qvevri” as a geographical indication, which was handed over to the Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Mr. Levan Davitashvili in solemn ceremony organized at the National Wine Museum.
“Qvevri” is the first non-agricultural product, which was added to the State Registry of Geographical Indications. Its registration as a geographical indication once again proves its special link with the history, culture and identity of our country, which will facilitate promotion of Georgian wine on international markets.
It is noteworthy that in 2013 the traditional Qvevri wine-making method was approved by UNESCO with the status of intangible cultural heritage, which indicates the uniqueness of this method and is a message to the whole world that wine is an inseparable part of ancient Georgian culture.

Sakpatenti and the High School of Justice will Implement Joint Projects
Sakpatenti Chairman Mr. Mindia Davitadze and Director of the High School of Justice Mr. Vano Bolkvadze discussed the issue of strengthening the judicial system in the field of intellectual property at the introductory meeting held at the House of Justice.
“In order to strengthen the intellectual property system in the country it is important to bolster capacities of the professionals in the field, including judiciary, as the judicial system is a major cornerstone which facilitates successful integration of the given area into the global system”, - Sakpatenti Chairman Mr. Mindia Davitadze noted at the meeting.

Sakpatenti will Cooperate with Israel’s Agency for International Development Cooperation – MASHAV
Sakpatenti Chairman visited the Embassy of Israel. At the introductory meeting, Mr. Ran Gidor, Ambassador of Israel to Georgia, and Mr. Mindia Davitadze, Chairman of Sakpatenti, discussed the fields of future cooperation and explored the possibilities of initiating joint projects. At the meeting Mr. Mindia Davitadze expressed concern over the developments in Israel and hope that the situation in the region will be improved soon and the population will be able to live together in the peaceful and stable environment.

Meeting between the Ambassador of the Republic of Italy to Georgia and the Chairman of Sakpatenti Took Place at Sakpatenti
The Ambassador of the Republic of Italy to Georgia, H.E. Enrico Valvo, was hosted at the Intellectual Property Center. During the meeting the Chairman of the Center, Mr. Mindia Davitadze, introduced the activities of Sakpatenti and ongoing projects to the diplomat and expressed willingness to cooperate with the Italian Patent and Trademark Office.

Market Control of Geographical Indications and Role of Enforcement Offices
Working meeting on the issues of geographical indications rights enforcement and market control is being held for representatives of the Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia, the Investigation Service of the Ministry of Finance and the Revenue Service. Training aims to facilitate capacity building of enforcement offices to introduce theoretical and practical aspects of investigation, monitoring and inspection measures for geographical indications rights enforcement

Copyrighted Works, Inventions, Created Design, New Variety and New Breed and Trademarks - Pupils Presented Results of Their Intellectual Work
Pupils creatively expressed the knowledge received at intellectual property lessons at the event, which was the final stage of one of the components of the EU-Georgia Intellectual Property Project (EUGIPP) - “Creativity and Intellectual Property in Georgian Schools”, aimed to facilitate integration of intellectual property into the basic system of education. 6 public schools of Tbilisi, Gori and Rustavi throughout Georgia were involved in the Project.

“Kaliandre” – New Variety of Apple Developed by Pupils of Gori Public School № 8
Moot discussion on new variety of apple “Kaliandre” as an intellectual property subject-matter was held and protectability was discussed during the event organized on occasion of the World Intellectual Property Day. Pupils of Gori Public School № 8 creatively expressed the knowledge received at intellectual property lessons and displayed their works for public. It is noteworthy that the pupils were involved in the implementation of one of the components of the EU-Georgia Intellectual Property Project (EUGIPP) - “Creativity and Intellectual Property in Georgian Schools”.

Statement
Period from May 4 to 11, 2021 is declared as non-working period at the National Intellectual Property Centre of Georgia - Sakpatenti.
Post-Easter period is declared a holiday by the Resolution of the Government of Georgia (2021.16.04. N175).
Sakpatenti will resume work from May 13, 2021.

Stakeholder and Patent Attorneys Consultation on Examination Guidelines for Design Applications
Within the EU-Georgia Intellectual Property Project (EUGIPP) Examination Guidelines for national and international design applications were developed by experts of the given field in cooperation with lawyers from the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) and Sakpatenti. Creation of the guidelines aims to ensure consistency of the decisions taken by Sakpatenti and development of uniform practice of carrying out examination of applications.

Webinar “Intellectual Property - from Idea to Innovation” was held for pupils - members of the teams who have passed to the semifinal of the Millennium Innovation Competition 2021.
