One more appellation of origin of Georgian wine – “Bolnisi” has been registered at Sakpatenti.
Protection of wine “Bolnisi” as an appellation of origin will facilitate increasing its competitiveness both inside the country and in the external markets, as it directly indicates that the product is high quality and has specific qualities. Hence, this will assist “Bolnisi” in occupying a segment of high quality and valuable goods in the market.

David Zalkaliani Met with Director General of the World Intellectual Property Organization
On February 26, 2019, in Geneva, Swiss Confederation, Mr. David Zalkaliani, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia, and Mr. Francis Gurry, Director General of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), discussed the reforms aimed at strengthening intellectual property rights in Georgia and issues of successful cooperation with the World Intellectual Property Organization.
Workshop on Geographical Indications
On February 19, 2019, a workshop within the project “Support to Sustainable Value Chains through the Development of Geographical Indications in the Dairy Sector”, funded by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), took place at the National Intellectual Property Centre of Georgia Sakpatenti.

Georgia has participated for the first time in one of the greatest culinary trade shows - the World Hospitality and Food Service Event Sirha 2019. The exhibition took place on January 26-30, 2019 in Lyon, France.
Meeting with Students of Ilia State University Took Place at Sakpatenti
Today, on January 21, 2019, students of Ilia State University visited Sakpatenti. The meeting was organized on the initiative of members of Ilia State University Students Club “E Pluribus Unum”, who are interested in Sakpatenti activities and expressed a desire to attend training in order to familiarize with the ongoing processes at Sakpatenti.

The Georgian Version of MGS is Already Available
Sakpatenti joined the Madrid Goods and Services Manager (MGS), a program administered by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). By means of this program the Georgian users, filing international applications, are given an opportunity to use the Georgian interface and make a list of goods and/or services in the Georgian language, which will simplify for them the procedure of extension of trademarks to the member states of the “Protocol Relating to the Madrid Agreement Concerning the International Registration of Marks”.

Georgia has Acceded to the Protocol Amending the TRIPS Agreement
On November 21, 2018, a meeting took place in Geneva between Mr. Roberto Azevêdo, Director General of the World Trade Organization (WTO), and Mr. Victor Dolidze, Permanent Representative of Georgia in Geneva, during which the instrument of ratification of the Protocol Amending the Agreement on Trade-Related Aspects of Intellectual Property Rights (TRIPS) by Georgia was deposited.

On November 15, 2018, the final stage and the awards ceremony of the young inventors’ competition “Leonardo da Vinci”, organized by Shota Rustaveli National Science Foundation of the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia, took place at the exhibition hall of the TBC Bank head office.
