Sakpatenti Participated in the Panel Discussion Held within the “Young Scientists’ Week”
The National Intellectual Property Center of Georgia – “Sakpatenti” participated in the panel discussion held within the “Young Scientists’ Week”. The event was attended by Mr. Dimitri Iobashvili, Head of the Chemistry-Medicine and Biology Division of the Department of Invention and New Varieties and Breedsof Sakpatenti. The event, planned by the Ministry of Education, Science and Youth of Georgia, was held at the Shota Rustaveli National Science Foundation of Georgia. Based on the example of Georgia, the participants of the meeting discussed the translation of scientific research into economy. In the format of a panel discussion, attention was focused on the environment, achievements, challenges and prospects of translation of research into economy.

The second meeting of the Steering Committee of the Georgian-Swiss Intellectual Property Project (GESIP) was held at the head office of the National Intellectual Property Center of Georgia – “Sakpatenti”. The meeting was attended by representatives of Sakpatenti, the Swiss side and the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture
Training Sessions were Offered for Sakpatenti Staff Members with the Involvement of the Swiss Side
Within the joint project (GESIP) of Sakpatenti and the Swiss Federal Institute of Intellectual Property (IPI), in order to promote the professional development of the staff members of the Department of Inventions and New Varieties and Breeds of Sakpatenti, training sessions “Freedom to Operate (FTO) Searches in the Field of Chemistry” were held, led by Ms. Stefanie Stier, patent expert of the Swiss Federal Institute of Intellectual Property (IPI).

With the Support of Sakpatenti, the Bolnisi Protected Designation of Origin Wine Festival was Held
The Protected Designation of Origin Wine Festival 2024 was held in Bolnisi. The festival took place in Georgia for the second time and its slogan was “Bolnisi – the Town of Golden Wine”. At the event, wines of protected designations of origin of up to 50 large producers and small family wineries from different parts of Georgia were presented.

Diplomatic Conference on Genetic Resources and Associated Traditional Knowledge was Held in Geneva
The Diplomatic Conference on Genetic Resources and Associated Traditional Knowledge was held in Geneva, Switzerland. The Conference consisted of several rounds of negotiations, after which the Member States of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), including with the support of Georgia, adopted the historic Treaty on Intellectual Property, Genetic Resources and Associated Traditional Knowledge. According to the agreement, it was established that if a claimed invention in a patent application is based on genetic resources, applicants shall be required to disclose in the application the country of origin or source of the genetic resources. On behalf of the National Intellectual Property Center of Georgia – “Sakpatenti”, Ms. Nino Chikovani, Deputy Chairperson of Sakpatenti, participated in the negotiations held within the Conference.
A Unique Mini Model of Georgian Products was Created for Sakpatenti
A specimen of decorative and applied art – a miniature model of products of geographical indications and appellations of origin – was added to the National Intellectual Property Center of Georgia – “Sakpatenti”. The mini model shows the mini versions of products of all, in total, 64 appellations registered at Sakpatenti. See the list: https://www.sakpatenti.gov.ge/ka/state_registry/

136 Trees, Flowers and Other Plants of 16 Species were Planted on Sakpatenti Territory
In order to arrange a green area in Sakpatenti yard and to create a comfortable, healthy environment for staff members, evergreen conifers and plants and flowers of other species were planted. Within the event, 136 seedlings of 16 species were planted, including: Lagerstroemia indica, Cupressus arizonica, Thuja occidentalis “Brabant”, Pinus mugo pumilio, Picea pungens Glauca, Thuja Rheingold, Loropetalum, Cornus kousa, Hibiscus, Hedera helix, Philadélphus, Thuja occidentalis “Globosa”, Thuja Golden Globe, Cineraria, Cupressus sempervirens var. horizontalis, Cupressus sempervirens “Pyramidalis”.

Sakpatenti Participated in the Anti-Scam Network Meeting Organized by the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO)
The 9th Anti-Scam Network Meeting was held in Alicante, Spain, organized by the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO). Georgia as EU Candidate Country participated in the meeting held in Alicante for the first time. On behalf of the National Intellectual Property Center, Ms. Nino Chikovani, Deputy Chairperson of Sakpatenti, attended the event.
Staff Members of Sakpatenti are Passing Coaching in the Fields of Biotechnology-Pharmacy
Examiners of the European Patent Office (EPO) delivered coaching sessions in the fields of biotechnology and pharmacy for the staff members of the Chemistry-Medicine and Biology Division of the Department of Inventions and New Varieties and Breeds of Sakpatenti. The meeting was held in hybrid mode.
Digitization of Paper Archival Materials is Starting at Sakpatenti
An agreement was signed between Sakpatenti and the National Archives of Georgia, based on which the National Archives will provide archival services to Sakpatenti for the purpose of creating material and electronic archives of the Office.
