
Workshop on Alternative Dispute Resolution
Workshop on Alternative Dispute Resolution was organized by Sakpatenti and the EUGIPP Project team within the EU-Georgia Intellectual Property Project (EUGIPP).
Mr. João Negrão, President of the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) Boards of Appeal, and Mr. Gordon Humphreys and Mr. Sven Stürmann, Chairmen of the 1st and the 2nd Boards of Appeal of EUIPO, participated in the seminar.
Geographical Indications and Border Measures
A two-day seminar on border measures related to geographical indications was held for Georgian customs officers.
The seminar, organized by Sakpatenti, took place within the Twinning Project on “Establishing Efficient Protection and Control System of Geographical Indications (GIs) in Georgia” and 25 representatives of the Customs Department of Revenue Service of the Ministry of Finance of Georgia participated in it.
The event was opened by Ms. Manana Pruidze, Acting Chairperson of the National Intellectual Property Centre of Georgia Sakpatenti, Mr. Giovanni Piccirillo, representative of the Department of International Relations of the Italian Customs Agency, and Mr. Elguja Berandze, Deputy Head of the Customs Department of the Revenue Service of the Ministry of Finance of Georgia.
PDP on Geographical Indications is being Held this year with a Renewed Format
Professional Development Program (PDP) on Geographical Indications of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and Sakpatenti has been opened today. Representatives of public agencies employed in the field of intellectual property will receive practical knowledge and skills on geographical indications system in remote mode until July 2, 2021. The event is organized by Sakpatenti Training Centre and WIPO Academy and in partnership with China National Intellectual Property Administration.

Roundtable Discussion was organized with Participation of Judges within the Framework of IP Enforcement Forum
Third day of IP Enforcement Forum in Georgia was devoted to judges and discussion of court cases related to infringements of intellectual property rights.

Technology Transfer in Georgia
Head of the Department of Inventions and New Varieties and Breeds of the National Intellectual Property Centre of Georgia Sakpatenti - Mr. Merab Kutsia participated in the event organized by Georgia’s Innovation & Technology Agency “Technology Transfer in Georgia”.
IP Enforcement Forum is being held in Georgia
The event is organized by Sakpatenti and the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) within EU funded EU-Georgia Intellectual Property Project (EUGIPP).

Control Exertion on Geographical Indications and the Role of Competent Offices
State control, authorization and certification of geographical indications were among the issues discussed during the training organized by Sakpatenti and the European Union. The event took place within the Twinning Project on “Establishing Efficient Protection and Control System of Geographical Indications (GIs) in Georgia”.
At the training attention was focused on the role, functions and activities of particular offices and control bodies. The participants received information on the experience and knowledge of the European Union in the direction of protection of geographical indications. They also were familiarized with the mechanisms that will enhance the geographical indications system in Georgia, will ensure capacity building and deepen the knowledge in the given area.
“Creativity and IP in Georgian Schools” – among the list of successful projects
One of the components implemented within the EU-Georgia Intellectual Property Project (EUGIPP) - “Creativity and IP in Georgian Schools” has met to all the components of the successful project and received the highest grade.
The final event was opened by Mr. Christian Archambeau, Executive Director of European Union Intellectual Property Office together with Mr. Mindia Davitadze, Chairman of Sakpatenti, Mr. Catalin Gherman- Deputy Head of Cooperation, EU Delegation to Georgia, Ms. Ekaterine Dgebuadze- Deputy Minister of Education and Science of Georgia, Mr. Irakli Nadareishvili- Deputy Minister of economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia.
The readiness to further continue the project but this time on a larger scale including all municipality schools was announced at the event. It will play the significant role in the development of country economy of Georgia in the long run.

CEO of European Business Association (EBA) was Hosted at Sakpatenti
Meeting of Sakpatenti Chairman Mr. Mindia Davitadze and CEO of the European Business Association Mr. David Lawrence Lee took place at the Head Office of Sakpatenti. The parties discussed future cooperation plans and perspectives.
The issue of joint projects development with respect to raising awareness on intellectual property issues in Georgia and capacity building of Sakpatenti staff members was highlighted at the meeting.
European Business Association (EBA) represents an organization in Georgia which is mainly focused on development of regions and small and medium enterprises. Mission of the Association is to advocate for European Businesses in Georgia and to facilitate the development of trade and investment between Georgia and Europe.

On Behalf of the Central European and Baltic States (CEBS) Regional Group, Georgia Addressed the Session of the Standing Committee of the World Intellectual Property Organization
On May 17, 2021, the 44th Session of the Standing Committee on the Law of Trademarks, Industrial Designs and Geographical Indications (SCT) was opened, during which the Special Representative of Georgia, Mrs. Ketevan Kiladze addressed the session.
At the meeting, Mrs.Ketevan Kiladze touched upon the issues related to the protection of designs, geographical indications and trademarks and stressed the importance of future activities and addressing the objectives faced by the Committee.
Purpose of the work of the Committee is to develop mechanisms regarding trademarks, designs and geographical indications which will ensure their more efficient protection. To attain this objective it is especially important to approximate positions of WIPO member states and achieve final agreement with respect to the current issues.
