
Free of Charge, Georgian-language General IP Course – Registration has Opened
In the framework of cooperation of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and the LEPL National Intellectual Property Centre of Georgia SAKPATENTI, the WIPO Academy Distance Learning Course - General Course on Intellectual Property (DL101GE) has become available in the Georgian language, free of charge. The course is open for any person interested in the intellectual property rights.
European Union-Georgia Joint Project on Intellectual Property (EUGIPP)
Today, on February 3, 2020, to initiate elaboration of the first year Action Plan of the European Union-funded project - European Union-Georgia Intellectual Property Project (EUGIPP), the Project Leader - Mr. Ibon Ormazabal, representative of the European Union Intellectual Property Office’s (EUIPO) Department of International Cooperation and Legal Affairs, paid a working visit to Georgia.
Sakpatenti Protected Georgian Appellations of Origin: “Vazisubani”, “Napareuli”, “Gurjaani”, “Manavi”, “Teliani”, “Kvareli” and “Kakheti” in the Russian Federation
The National Intellectual Property Centre of Georgia SAKPATENTI has registered seven Georgian appellations of origin: “Vazisubani”, “Napareuli”, “Gurjaani”, “Manavi”, “Teliani”, “Kvareli” and “Kakheti” at the Federal Service for Intellectual Property of the Russian Federation (ROSPATENT). Last August, Sakpatenti applied to ROSPATENT requesting granting legal protection to Georgian appellations. The exclusive right on the above-mentioned appellations on the territory of the Russian Federation was granted to the National Wine Agency.

Today, on January 23, 2020 a meeting of the EU-Georgia Sub-Committee on Geographical Indications took place in Brussels, envisaged under the Association Agreement with the European Union, during which the National Intellectual Property Centre of Georgia SAKPATENTI, on behalf of Georgia, signed Decision N1/2020 of the Geographical Indications Sub-Committee modifying Annexes XVII-C and XVII-D to the Association Agreement between the European Union and the European Atomic Energy Community and their Member States, of the one part, and Georgia, of the other part.
Meeting within the Twinning Project
Today, on November 26, 2019, the National Intellectual Property Centre of Georgia Sakpatenti is hosting a meeting of experts of the geographical indications field and representatives of associations of producers of geographical indications and appellation of origin goods, organized within the EU-funded Twinning Project “Establishing Efficient Protection and Control System of Geographical Indications (GIs) in Georgia”.

Project “Support to Sustainable Value Chains through the Development of Geographical Indications in the Dairy Sector” is Coming to an End
Today, on November 19, 2019, on the occasion of the successful completion of the Project “Support to Sustainable Value Chains through the Development of Geographical Indications in the Dairy Sector” the event was organized. The aim of the event was to summarize the Project results and to demonstrate the lessons learned.

Competition “Leonardo da Vinci” Revealed Young Inventors
On November 15, 2019, the awards ceremony of the 9th Annual Competition of Young Inventors and Researchers “Leonardo da Vinci” took place. The competition, aim is rise interest in innovations and technical progress among teenagers, facilitate continues improvement in education, to reveal pupils distinguished for their inventive talent and stimulate the development of pupils’ creative thinking and practical skills, is held since 2010. Every year the Mechanics Section of the Department of Inventions and New Varieties and Breeds of the National Intellectual Property Centre of Georgia - SAKPATENTI is involved in the evaluation process of the projects submitted at the competition.

Presentation of the European Union Project “Establishing Efficient Protection and Control System of Geographical Indications (GIs) in Georgia”
On November 7, 2019, the EU-funded Twinning Project “Establishing Efficient Protection and Control System of Geographical Indications (GIs) in Georgia” was launched officially. The kick-off meeting of the Twinning Project, held at Sheraton Grand Tbilisi Metechi Palace, was opened by H.E. Mr. Carl Hartzell, Ambassador of the European Union to Georgia.

Access to Patent Protection in Georgia will be Simplified
Today, the Agreement between the Government of Georgia and the European Patent Organisation (EPO) on Validation of European Patents (Validation Agreement) was signed in Munich by Mr. António Campinos, President of EPO, and Mr. Genadi Arveladze, Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia. Once in force, the Agreement will allow to validate European patents on the territory of Georgia, based on a single European patent application. It will simplify the procedure of patenting inventions for international applicants in Georgia.

Strategic Partnership and Cooperation Agreement with Great Britain
On October 21, 2019, a Strategic Partnership and Cooperation Agreement was signed between Georgia and Great Britain in London, capital of United Kingdom.
